Celebrating #IWD by appreciating all the times I get to rock with these incredible people in sport and #officiating. What a privilege 🙏🏽

Book 2 of 2025 📚✅ Richard Wright is one of the best writers in the English language; doesn’t make this an easy read. His depiction of the dislocation that occurs as the result of American racism is both deeply complex and searingly brutal. A very challenging read, but worth it.

Book #1 of 2025 📚✅ There’s a lot to take away from this book — informative research and first-hand accounts — but what is really sticking with me are questions and reflections it triggered in my mind. If you see yourself contributing something to the sport or culture of hockey, this is a must-read.

Sunday morning in #Vancouver 😎✌🏽

I would get this occasionally teaching high school... this version of the conspiracy had "the union" forcing me to teach a particular way. I guess if you have no kids (or teens who don't talk to you), your conceptions are shaped by (social) media; easy to believe if they confirm your preconceptions

The NHL successfully turning their all star game into a blood feud isn’t something I’d probably recommend to other leagues but somehow still impressive

I know I'm in the minority, but I will keep repeating this until I die: overt nationalism is bad for hockey and we should not be feeding into it. The 1972 Summit Series was not good for the sport. It was ugly and dirty and all it got us was an unjustified feeling of superiority.

I gotta say, the #UCL format change is working out great so far... This was true last month, when we had a meaningful last day of the league phase (instead of a bunch of dead rubbers at the end of the group stage), but so far, the playoff round is delivering as well... (1/2)

This is a thoughtful, measured piece from @kdonk.bsky.social. I think it's important to underscore that #womenshockey is built upon international competition, and that international competition is more than just Canada-USA (as noted in the piece). www.cbc.ca/sports/hocke...

It’s worth emphasizing the “it’s never too late” part of Julie’s thread. My paternal grandfather and I lived 6000km away from each other. It was only in the last 4-5 years of his life that he was open to meaningfully talking about his early life and I’m so glad that I had that opportunity.

A major piece of the puzzle that I see a lot of fellow white people missing is intergenerational dialogue. I grew up working class & rural but I also grew up with 4 generations under one roof. History was never far away & so it was easy to learn from.

I know I say this every couple of months, but I love that we have the ability to watch all different competitions. This weekend, it's the last round of #womenshockey qualification for the 2026 Olympics 🏒🌐 great athletes and a reminder that the sport's importance extends beyond North American shores

“Some Canadian politicians and influencers, inspired by an American-born movement, are trying to roll back 2SLGBTQ+ rights in Canada — one book at a time.” www.cbc.ca/newsinteract...

Basically, if you’re feeling a swell of Canadian patriotism right now, you’re a mark. And I’m not judging — I cry during Pixar movies and any commercial with a kid and their grandparents — but don’t let nationalist rhetoric affect your values and actions.

I often say that the economy is not real. It is a constructed system with constructed rules. Current events are a great example of this principle. This ‘war’ is being fought over nothing; neither side can win because there is nothing to be won. There is only suffering for the working class.

This really is absurd. The only time a school board has been fired is for failing to submit a balanced budget because school boards do not have financial authority. This is a contravention of the school board's elected mandate and a violation of Victoria voters' democratic rights. #bced #bcpoli

These are truly shocking numbers. We are going to look back on this era of sports media and sponsorship in the same way (or worse) that we remember teams/players promoting cigarette companies @hockeyinsociety.bsky.social @endofsportpod.bsky.social

This is a really good piece highlighting how sport organizations and media perpetuate a toxic hustle culture, framing everything as an obstacle to be overcome. Not everything is a motivational story; the birth of a child should be celebrated, not 'managed'.

This is a good article and I want to highlight one piece: Twitter/X a no longer a useful place to post information. I stopped posting because I wasn't reaching my intended audience and then I stopped reading because it was harder to find the content I wanted. Not everything is part of a culture war

Trying to articulate why ExtraTime meant so much to so many: it was emblematic of an era of #MLS where the fans really felt like they mattered. It was a league-produced podcast that was just normal guys (friends) talking intelligently but humorously about soccer.
