Small indie dev group working on "Hapiru" a yuri visual novel set in Utah about dealing with grief, and the importance of community, but mostly about getting adopted by three very violent women during a zombie pandemic.

Doing not amazing healthwise after my vacation (pro tip, don't fall into sacred fonts during a day long party, also protip, don't get a cold with a pulled jaw muscle) but the demo itself is going okay and not really leaning on me for anything, should be on track for the women's game fest. #gamedev

Demo work is going well, ended up realizing that our initial plans might be a bit ambitious (what sort of youtuber/vtuber would play a 2 hour long demo from a new studio??) so we're paring it down in length for now and focusing on adding at least some of the planned branches.

A reminder that even if gen ai was ethically sourced the impact it has on the environment is so catastrophic that it literally doesn't matter. It's still unethical. I've seen a lot of "environmentalists" using AI. You're bad at your job.

Indie devs of the world, if you could get the rights to any song to use in your trailers what would it be? I'd probably go for something like... Untitled Love Song by Angels of light, love that song.

We're still chugging along, but some of the other devs are sick and most of what we're working on this week is best shown in the demo anyway.

Reposting this because I do want more people to see it but full disclosure, the lead writer (among other things) of Hapiru (me) is also the Hen in this Can. Give it a look if you like adventure stories about waterworlds and mechas.

Just finished watching The People's Joker, If I had to nail down my thoughts on it to one snappy line it'd be this, I think it's the director's Evil Dead 1. Is it amazing? No, but I liked it, and I hope this is the start of a long and productive career for everyone involved. #moviereview

Honestly just really proud of how this one ended up looking, was kinda worried if I could really get that lived in sense of clutter going but I think it worked out? Wonder what people think she's like though. #vn #collageart #art #cg

Decided to start writing more proper devlogs on Tumblr since Bluesky's limit is waaaay too short to talk about design decisions in any level of detail, we're starting with a post about the UI because it's the big thing we're excited about getting right at the moment. www.tumblr.com/hapiruprojec...

First actual look at the VN now that the very first part of the demo and the UI is mostly ready, I don't know about you but I really like how it's all coming together so far. #indiedev #uidesign #visualnovel #collageart #yuri #vn #horror

Paradise Analog Collage Been getting a lot done both at work and home towards getting ahead with my art and I think I can finally comfortably post twice or so a week. Can't explain how happy that makes me lol! #Collage #analog #analogcollage #art #paper #surreal #weird

Getting the UI stuff working properly on renpy is taking a while so I've just been working on more backgrounds while the programmer works through it, here's hoping we'll be able to show y'all a short clip of the VN tomorrow! #indiedev #vn #art #collageart #backgrounds

A reminder that fiction — books, film, games, what have you — is always political. The willful absence of “politics” in any work is itself a political choice and a political act. Who gets to tell (and sell) stories is political. It might be an undercurrent — covert, not overt. But it’s there.

Talked about what the text box should look like and we decided on a cardboard look for a lot of things. Made this mockup with the art and incomplete renders we already had to try and see how it'd all tie togeher before we worked on it in renpy, and we think it looks good? #vn #renpy #gamedev #devlog

Decided to try my hand at making a logo for Hapiru. It's like, a halo of torn demin, Martha's helmet, and grasping arms bursting through to represent the desire for connection and to tie into the zombie genre a little, also I think it feels like snail eyestalks. #indiedev #vn #logo #art #collageart

Everyone should check out the Sealed with a Kiss entries. There are so many amazing games in there. This community really has so much talent 💜 #gamejam #swak

To the other #indiedevs out there, where did the name for your game come from? Our VN is named after 'Apiru, which was this bronze age class of raiders, nomads, and shepherds that some scholars think might be the etymological root for hebrew, which seems kinda fitting for something set in Utah. #Vn

Finishing up with the script for the demo today and God, it just feels nice to finally get here y'know? Like yeah sure there's a lot of work that needs to be done, songs to compose, backgrounds to render in polygons and stock, and the actual code to make, but it feels more real now. #vn #gamedev

You know something? Regardless of what happens over the next few months, I have *two* complete games on Steam. Two. T. W. O. That's not nothing, regardless of how many people play it or buy it. I'm still proud of that and I'm proud of both of those games. 1/ #indiedev #indiegame

I know it sounds kind of silly, but finding out that I can just *ask* my friends to take pictures of things I don't have access to and can't find good stock of really helps cut down on the unintentional awkwardness on some of the designs. #art #vn #gamedev

So it turns out that a friend of a friend does actually own a neat little black revolver, which lets me redesign Martha's new best friend into something closer to what I originally wanted her to be (we originally used a Dirty Harry screencap for her face which was hard to crop). #indiedev #art #vn

I think this is the final bit of art I can share for a while without going into spoiler territory? It's all WIP backgrounds and what little CGs we think we can make without an artist from here on out. Two other main characters basically, fun people. #indiedev #art #gamedev #vn #yuri

Character art from a couple of days ago, a potential friend, and a zombie. Not sure if I'll keep going with that style for other zombies though, the thing I was going for was along the lines of, 'not wanting to think it's human, but needing to see it as a threat' if that makes any sense. #gamedev

Well you can't expect to win em all #marvelrivals
