That everyone outside your own political base isn’t “real people” is a very succinct summation of populism’s core premise. It’s not about some nebulous notion of representing the masses, it’s about claiming the power to decide who counts as “the people” with rights and legitimacy.

Exactly. Use it as the pretext to tax the asset holding sections of UK society whose wealth has increased dramatically over the past decade.

It’s probably a sensible move by Starmer to increase defence spending given the new reality Europe is waking up to. Having said that, the money l, like for most investments, could & should come from taxation of the wealthiest rather than cutting welfare or foreign aid.

Feels like we are entering an era where the hushed conversation in a lot of (all-white) media boardrooms is, in careful euphemism, “we’re not hiring black people in major roles anymore” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/23/b...

Always nice when someone confirms your long held opinion of who they probably are. That European football is in his control to an extent is a real shame.

Youth gender divide, German edition: Young women more than twice as likely to vote for the Left vs young men. Young men almost twice as likely to vote AfD vs young women.

You beat the team in front of you, not their reputation. Tremendous display of composure & discipline from LFC It’s creeping ever closer eh? 🫠

Think I’ve grown accustomed to it taking a particular type of LFC performance to beat Manchester City. This has been a methodical & cautious outing & crucially we’ve taken our chances so far. Feels like there are gears to go up if needed in the second half. 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Wow that’s a really intelligent goal. Brilliant from Trent, Salah & Szobo

Had Trent pulled that back for Diaz it would’ve been a magnificent goal

LFC playing like this is the first leg of a European tie. Despite the goal, so oddly passive & sloppy on the ball.

FINALLY a clever set piece from LFC 😭😭😭😭

Surely Diaz had to shoot in that position?

Quite & odd start from LFC, slow & tentative

Cmon Redmen, let’s take the opportunity

Very interested to see where Curtis Jones plays today. Felt he struggled on the left wing against Villa at times.

Game Day 🔌 for my chat with @fussballdan.bsky.social ahead of LFC’s trip to Manchester this afternoon. With Arsenal stumbling yesterday, the Reds have another chance to take advantage & increase their lead in the title race…can Slot improve their poor record at the Etihad?

Was disciplined & didn’t check the Arsenal score all game until now. That’s a generous gift. One LFC should be taking advantage of tomorrow

Oliver 100% gives that if it’s in the Derby against us btw

He’s exactly that sort of player too. Probably fair to rule it out

That’s more of a dive from Young imo, given his extensive history. But that’s hilarious

Everything I can infer about Salah’s ego would tell me he’s keen to illustrate Marmoush remains in his shadow in this game

A look ahead to Sunday’s game at the Etihad, as Dan & I delve into what’s gone wrong for City this season. Has Guardiola’s coaching been found wanting? Who will leave come the end of the season? How will City’s changing of the guard unfold? All this & more

They’re going be annihilated

So aside from the monetary benefit, there’s zero advantage of finishing top of the new UCL group stage? I back LFC to beat anyone (Madrid aside) in this competition but PSG is as tricky a tie as we could’ve gotten

Everything about the Ukraine situation is grim. But yes, this! It was only five years ago. In the fall of 2019 "the perfect phone call" and all that came with it felt like possibly the biggest presidential scandal in history. In the big picture now, it's a blip.

Damning comments. His performance yesterday really was unacceptable, miss aside

Ryan Flamingo is a name worthy of a late winner in a Champions League tie

Two points dropped. Villa were there for the taking & profligacy from every attacker not named Mo Salah cost LFC. Hugely frustrating despite it being a good point away from home on paper. The Nunez cameo was maddening.

Salah’s been outstanding. He just needs help from a single other attacker

Darwin…this has been a brain dead cameo so far I hope he has a moment of redemption

Interesting subs Presumably with an eye on City

GET IN Fully deserved. Superb from Trent & Mo

How wonderful it would be to have any sort of threat from corners 😅

Absurd to be behind when this dominant. Sort it out, Reds.

Unbelievable LFC have been by far the better side & have conceded two atrociously soft goals. So unlike them. Watkins entirely unmarked & an awful time to concede.

Villa are very gettable here. Need to take the chances on offer

That is utterly HORRENDOUS from Jota

Great delivery & just failed to clear our lines. Bloody set piece nonsense

What a beautiful gift. Salah will take those. LFC will take those

Great to see Jones involved. Retaining the ball & ensuring we press intelligently will be really important tonight. Will need big performances from both fullbacks too.

I’d give him a heavy tackle early on, may as well use the contextual refereeing to our advantage
