Looking for all of my science connections. I study pain processing using a combination of psychophysics (QST) and brain neuroimaging, mostly.

Anyone know when the BRIMR NIH funding rankings will be posted for FY24? Seems like in years past they have come out in early to mid February. Wonder if their funding has also been affected by the current situation?

God please let this continue. I have a good problem of too much money to spend this year

‘Merica!!!

If this 15% cap on IDCs from NIH holds up in court, lots of people will soon be out of a job, including me. Emory will give the NIH money I have back to NIH and fire me and my lab because it will be too costly for them to support my research. All research admin jobs gone. Med school ghost towns

Glad to have received 2 NIH grants last year. This feels like the beginning of the end though

Real snow in Atlanta! Doesn’t happen often

End-of-semester lab lunch and gift exchange at BarTaco.

Interesting post about the creation of the New Innovator Award, which I received this year through the HEAL Initiative. The cool thing about the funding is that the whole thing was already awarded to Emory in FY24, so if the NIH collapses in 2025 with RFKJ I at least have a few good years left.

Being exposed to hateful people and outright lies propagated by selfish billionaires does not, in fact, broaden one’s horizons.

A thread on NIH Reorganization and the Scientific Management Review Board (SMRB) Disclosure: I was involved with the SMRB since its inception and have very strong feelings about how it was used, misused, and abandoned. My passion on these issues will undoubtably show through. 1/n

Had a really fun time helping with the Pain fMRI town hall hosted by the Neuroimaging SIG of the @usasp.bsky.social I learned a lot from the other presentations and the discussions. Awesome to see so many attendees and with such great questions. So does QST.Lab or Medoc win?

Following a question from @dabiophysicist.bsky.social , I want to share some analyses and thoughts about indirect cost rates. This follows on from a #datahound post about indirect costs some years ago. datahound.scientopia.org/2014/05/10/i... Here goes, starting with some background... 1/n

Really impressed with how busy it has gotten here and how much cool science is being posted. Minimal negativity and weirdness being artificially boosted is also a plus!

I've joined the 🦋 migration! Here's a pain and somatosensory researchers starter pack. Comment or message me to be added #neuroscience #neuroskyence #pain 🧠 🔬 go.bsky.app/N3EmVKA

Took the whole lab to the MRI scanner today to film some clips demonstrating how we apply noxious thermal stimuli in fMRI experiments. Excited to help do a webinar / town hall on pain fMRI for the USASP next Wednesday!

Really happy to have contributed, with other great researchers, to this news feature by Fred Schwaller in Nature! The quest to build bionic limbs that feel like the real thing www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Future scientists?

What is the easiest way to find science people I know on here who have come over from Twitter? I would say that I don’t have enough time but really it is more an energy issue.

Hi everyone. Maybe this is the place? Seems promising. Follow me and I’ll follow you back.
