Always trust a veggie to do a banging BBQ

#UKHE Please encourage disabled students at your institutions to complete the DSUK annual survey. It is a vital tool in helping to shape disability support in HE, as well as providing invaluable feedback on current issues facing disabled students. It has real impact!

Who wants to come and hang out with us at the always-fabulous National Association of Disability Practitioners Annual Conference?! Super friendly, lots of amazing content, and you don't need to be a member to come! Last few tickets left, so get booking! nadp-uk.org/conferences/...

The gammons and frothers and pearl clutchers and racists and disablists and armchair politicians are out in full force on Any Answers this afternoon. Sometimes their ranting is funny, which is why I sometimes listen. Today it's just plain grim #Radio4

Translation: Farage says 'fuck disabled people in particular' Working from home is a essential adaptation for a lot of disabled people, and EDI (because we're not in Trumpland and don't use DEI) includes accessibility services. And they want councils to provide fewer services. Of course.

Fellow anaemics, is Spatone still the best bet for boosting iron (ferritin) levels? Latest blood tests show that my levels are low again, and the GP appointment booked to discuss isn't for another month.

Today I'm off to meet the VC for a 10 minute slot - she's running bookable appointments for all staff. It says a lot that, in 20 years employment at Leeds, and through 4 VCs, this is the first time I'll ever have spoken with the VC in person.

"These aren’t practices and processes that can be prioritised based on finances, it’s a baseline, legal requirement disabled students are entitled to." Good, albeit depressing, piece on disabled student support.

It's my birthday so I shall sit in the sunshine with my coffee and a book! ☀️ Shame you can't all hear the birdsong too, it's pretty nice out here today.

It's so hard and demoralising to read reports like this from inside Disability Services, knowing that we run ourselves into the ground trying to make things right, only to have our recommendations summarily ignored. Disabled students' rights are still being ignored wonkhe.com/blogs/disabl...

The Disabled Student Commitment #DSC has launched the Competence Standards Guidance, marking a crucial step forward in supporting disabled students across UK #higherEd. Officially launched in the House of Commons, this initiative highlights the importance of accessible practices. bit.ly/4jvPAF4

In Parliament for the #DisabledStudentCommitment event to launch the guidance on #CompetenceStandards I’m delighted with the role we’ve had in this work, and proud of the progress we’ve made at @universityofleeds.bsky.social

John Blake from Office for Students is pointing out that we can’t make reasonable adjustments if we don’t know what and why we are assessing #CompetenceStandards #DSC

What they call pedants (people who can’t resist correcting you’re spelling and grammer) in five different countries…. 5. Comma fucker (Finland) 4. Little dot shitter (Switzerland) 3. Whittler of woodchips (Norway) 2. Counter of peas (Germany) 1. Sodomizer of flies (France)

WHAT A DAY! After all the excitement of giving the guest lecture in Cambridge on Tuesday, today saw us at Westminster, attending the Disabled Student Commitment celebration event and witnessing the launch of sector guidance on competence standards, the culmination of a lot of hard work! Link below

Terrible views from our private suite at St John's College last night! Really enjoyed giving our lecture (official photos and recording to follow), and catching up with people afterwards. And waking up to these views this morning.

Off to Cambridge this morning to deliver the Kirsty Wayland Memorial Lecture this evening with my partner in competence standards crime @diervilla.bsky.social. Looking forward to catching up with some former colleagues and old friends! www.disability.admin.cam.ac.uk/working-disa...

I've had TWO full 12 hour sleeps in the last few days 😳 Think the last couple of years of flat out work was catching up with me. Not slept like that since pre-kids! 😴

Turns out my wardrobe cannot cope with delivering both an important lecture and attending an event at the House of Commons all in the same week, with the same people 😬

Middle age is...discovering that the nightclub you frequented pretty much every weekend as a teenager is now a Mortgage Advice Centre 😣
