The Los Angeles County Museum of Art posted this today and it’s still cracking me up

Truly find it baffling that every elected Dem isn't out there talking like Pritzker. He's my governor and I gotta say, his popularity here only appears to be increasing, the more he mocks and calls out this admin. I know there are a handful of others esp in the House. But it should be ALL of them.

“In a world in desperate need of bombastic excess, revisiting Joel Schumacher’s films can feel like a reminder of the kind of filmmaking possible when a director isn’t afraid to lean all the way into their boldest tendencies.” — Alejandra Martinez www.rogerebert.com/features/in-...

Have I said this before? Bring back the WPA!

Ouch

what i'm trying to say is everyone should watch Connections (1978) with James Burke

you can't automate accountability

Four examples of Democratic messaging since yesterday. I know which one I'm supporting. And voting for.

Artist CF Tunnicliffe first came to prominence with his wood engraving illustrations for Henry Williamson’s book Tarka the Otter, 1933

‘The land lies fallow’ The farm in Winter Other work of the Ladybird artists. Artist: SR Badmin (1953)

Broad Street was absolute mayhem after the Eagles win tonight. The crowd was so dense it was immovable at times and cell service was nonexistent (my phone even read “SOS” at one point). I couldn’t live post but I can now share what I saw reporting in Philly tonight. Go Birds.

This is so mean and so brilliant

November 19th is: #WorldToiletDay. 🚽🏺 Roman latrine in form of a chariot, marble 2nd-3rd century CE, Baths of Caracalla, Rome. 🤝 Training potty in form of a racing car plastic, 21st century CE.

When I was a buyer at a large indie, my rule of thumb was: 1 preorder: huh, let me take a closer look at this one 2 preorders: we need to stock this book 3 preorders: we should order enough to face this out 4+ preorders: this should be on front-of-store display

I built a silly usage of the Bluesky Firehose just to get my feet wet and see what was possible. It's kinda fun to just watch. www.emojirain.lol

Chicago:

For funsies I make funny shirts and hats: shirtgoodhq.com or shirtgoodhq on Instagram (maybe I should make a Bluesky for it)

Bluesky’s stream of consciousness 🌀

Hi everyone. The Onion, with the help of the Sandy Hook families, has purchased InfoWars. We are planning on making it a very funny, very stupid website. We have retained the services of some Onion and Clickhole Hall of Famers to pull this off. I can't wait to show you what we have cooked up.

it's this kind of turning up and acting like you're entitled to run the place that loses elections

If you make spaghetti and meatballs then you already have everything you need for a meatball sub

If you program repertory and/or independent and/or art house cinema, tag me on screening announcements & I will amplify

happy tuesday here is my favorite internet video from graeme barrett (sound = crucial)

Chicago!

This really crystallized for me not just how the years-long process of getting things made is inherent to *why* Hollywood is losing relevance, but also how the comparable excessive caution in the communication style of the political left has lost the plot theankler.com/p/day-after-...

once again, on bluesky, the alt text is where it's AT

On “enshittification,” Doctorow may have coined the word, but John D. Macdonald described the process in 1974. The quote is too long for a skeet so I’m going to embed it in the alt-text for the cover of the book it came from, The Dreadful Lemon Sky.

the essential ADHD experience:

Follower counts can be deceiving. Engagement is higher on Bluesky — we’ve seen this trend consistently, not just for the past few weeks.

post your favorite skeets on this website for all the new people

An unordered / non-exhaustive list of things that helped scale Bluesky's infra efficiently: + Exiting the cloud (colocation) + HAProxy w/many Node backends + Go w/clever code + ScyllaDB + SQLite w/per user databases + Redis w/many instances + AMD servers w/many cores + Purchasing bandwidth directly

I wonder how far away from Earth you'd have to be to catch up to the first airing of that lost 70s Doreamon anime.

READ THE TRIIBE AND FOLLOW THE TRIIBE ON BLUESKY

Oh, Bluesky’s very popular, Ed. The film dorks, the Kpop stans, the authors, writers, Brazilians, leftists, transgenders, gamers, furries - they all adore it. They think it’s a righteous site.

Francis Fukuyama said history is starting again and I want off the ride.

Posting this again because a lot of people said they found it helpful! Guide to ALT text: www.perkins.org/resource/how...

I developed my political awareness in the same way as so many other Millennials: by listening to Rage Against The Machine on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 soundtrack, followed shortly by the invasion of Iraq

The DS9 ep is called The Visitor and if you’ve ever seen the Picard flute ep where he lives an entire life and it’s incredibly emotional and heartrending, you should watch this because it’s just as good and he delivers one of the great performances
