An update on my European Beech bonsai, in development with me for nearly 25 years now! A couple of weeks ago I gave the crown a good thinning out, removing a fair amount of ramification, basically to encourage more strength in that lower branch.

Playing with a huge 1.5 metre tall Carpinus betulus/European Hornbeam bonsai today! I dug it up and potted it 2 years ago from the garden where it had been growing as a project tree for an enthusiast. It’s now in a 24"/60cm (!) wide plastic bonsai training pot and for sale in the Bonsai4me.com/store

Update on the original English Elm raft bonsai in my collection, seen here with the tree as it was after airlayering by Sean Stolp in 2018.

Catching up on some images of bonsai taken on my DSLR that so far I’ve only posted on reels. This is a Prunus spinosa/Blackthorn bonsai of mine after winter pruning. Bonsai pot by Victor Harris Another few weeks and it’ll be covered in white flowers! #bonsai #tree #blackthorn #winter

Huge Larch repotted this morning in London, with owner Faisal Waheedy Faisal has owned the tree for over a decade since bringing it back from Belgium, styled by Kevin Wilson a few years ago, this is the second repot to get the tree planted at the correct angle.

European Larch bonsai styled this week. The tree was originally collected as a sapling in Wales and grown in a variety of bonsai pots for 40 years in a private bonsai collection. When the owner died, I acquired the tree 2 years ago and it had been badly neglected for over 25 years.

The final image of the Hawthorn bonsai I styled this week for video. 32”/81cm in height, the tree was the first collected from the Hill in 2016. It’s been a slow journey with this tree; with older Hawthorn, they’re not as vigorous as younger trees, but we’re getting there!

This approx 150+ year old Hawthorn bonsai was the first I collected off the hill, around 8 years ago. This week I’ve been keeping warm in the studio filming the process of refining the branch structure. #bonsai

A ‘moving image’ of my Elm raft bonsai after winter pruning. Originally collected by Sean Stolp 5 years ago, everything has been grown onto a bare trunk.

Merry Christmas to all of my friends and followers on here. If you don’t do Christmas, have a great Wednesday! Pictured is my local just round the corner, a Public House built over 600 years ago. I maybe in there at some point :)

Deadwood carving for bonsai is a difficult set of skills to learn, and when I saw the footage I shot for a carving video, I realised it’s also quite spectacular! Watch your fingers! #bonsai #woodworking #tree #carving

A very quick 1 minute preview of a Larch bonsai I was commissioned to work on for tattooist Mike Harris and his dad David Harris . The entire process was filmed and has been edited now for future release, but this is a fun reel showing snippets of the whole process! #bonsai #tree #larch

One of a series of reels I have of some of the bonsai at Saturdays B4me workshop here in Aylesbury. I posted this Larch bonsai belonging to Chris Ducker recently and here it is ‘in the flesh’ after detail wiring during the day. There are more workshops available, please see the Bonsai4me.com/store

One of a series of reels I have of some of the bonsai at Saturdays B4me workshop here in Aylesbury. This English Elm bonsai was wired by Sean Stolp before I carved out the centre of the trunk. There are more workshops available, please see the Bonsai4me.com/store

A reel showing the various stages of a Larch bonsai commission I finished today for Michael Harris and David Harris The tree had already been styled very well but needed some detail-wiring and a slight reposition in its pot to get the absolute best out of it. #bonsai #larch #art #tree

A reel showing the stages of Autumn refinement for my Hornbeam bonsai. Removal of the old leaves, pruning, wiring and rebuilding of the crown. #bonsai #tree #hornbeam

My European Hornbeam bonsai 2010-2024. I worked on the tree for previous owner Faisal Waheedy for many years before it came to my garden 5 years ago. I still remember us chopping it from a much taller tree in 2009! Bonsai pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery #bonsai #tree

My European Hornbeam bonsai after detailed pruning and a little wiring to reorganise the crown. Bonsai pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery #bonsai #tree #hornbeam

Bonsai, making a living from bonsai, discipline in bonsai and a range of topics were discussed in October, at the Bonsai Live Show, in an interview I did with French Bonsai Artist Laurent Darrieux of Cosmic Bonsai. The video premieres at 18:00 GMT this evening here on YouTube youtu.be/ZuJRdnVHXOI

Another Facebook memory, this time from 3 years ago today: After a journey together of over a decade, this Hornbeam bonsai finally headed to its new home today. The tree was detailed before the new owner picked it up, this important annual task makes a world of a difference!

Me pictured with my Field Elm bonsai (Ulmus minor) in 2016. It’s stood the test of time. Height 17"/42cm Pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery. Tree started from a thick air-layered branch 19 years ago. Full of bonsai ‘mistakes’ but that was the point. #bonsai #elm

It is with very heavy heart to share the terrible news that Andrew Pearson, aka Stone Monkey passed away suddenly this morning. I’m shocked as I know many are. The image is from happier days at The Noelanders Show in 2017, with Andy, Alex, Thor Holvila and Farrand Bloch of Bonsai Focus

My next tree up in the Studio for filming, a larch belonging to my tattooist Michael Harris @mikeharristattoo.bsky.social that is in for detailing and finishing. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while now! . . #bonsai #larch #commission

On the 1st of every month, the Bonsai4me Newsletter drops and we’re now approaching 10,000 subscribers! This month we have some tips on autumn pruning, an opportunity to get your tree filmed while it’s styled, and an exclusive look at the styling of a spruce I filmed last week…..

My European Hornbeam bonsai given an autumn clean up before pruning, during an all-weekend 1:2:1 with Alex who’d flown in specially from Chicago. The tree continues to evolve from a bare stump just 14 years ago. Bonsai pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery #bonsai #tree #autumn #hornbeam

Beuvronensis Scots Pine bonsai, purchased in 2002 for peanuts at a UKBA auction (3th-4th images, and just over 18 months later after restyling and repotting last year. I’m still not sure which view is the front.

A rare dusting of snow in November this morning! The Olives that stand on pedestals through the Summer are in the polytunnel, but the Pines and Sabina Juniper bonsai are more than able to cope. #bonsai #snow

Images of my Common Hawthorn bonsai over the years, starting with yesterday. Followed by 2007 and working backwards to when it was still in the ground in 2003 on an old slag-heap in Greater Manchester. Height 90cm approx Bonsai pot by Victor Harris of Erin Pottery #bonsai #tree #hawthorn #yamadori
