What is Shoegaze Horror? A Ghost Story, We’re All Going To The World’s Fair, Skinamarink and beyond… a horror cinema of ghosts, memories, and slow-burning dissolution, dislocation, dissociation, depersonalisation & derealisation. I take a walk through 17 films… 📽️👻 whitlockandpope.com/2025/02/23/j...

Takashi Murakami / MLB crossovers, kinda dope if you ask me

R.I.P. Gene Hackman (1930-2025)

Herbcraft | Wot Oz (Woodsist, 2015).

For reasons entirely beyond my control, I am suddenly and irrevocably 43. Thanks to all who have helped get me to this weird stage of life. As a bonus, here’s me in my element (tipsy, with a gourd, and surrounded by friends who are definitely there just slightly off-camera).

Donald Byrd | Byrd in Flight (Blue Note, 1960).

"At first I wasn't sure that I had the talent, but I did know I had a fear of failure, and that fear compelled me to fight off anything that might abet it." ~ Gordon Parks

How it started — How it’s going

Dorothy Ashby | Afro-Harping (Cadet, 1968).

All of my flying anxiety can be traced back to Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) and Cloak & Dagger (1984). IYKYK.

Someone reminded me I compiled this list and you should watch these movies all year round. However, the first day of Black History Month is a good time to start. 🕵🏾‍♀️ P.S. She’s an older one so these streamers have probably switched 800 times. www.dreadcentral.com/editorials/4...

Horacee Arnold / Tales of the Exonerated Flea (Columbia, 1974).

For roughly 10 years, I have been trying to think who Barry Bostwick in Megaforce looks like. I just realised who. Brave Heart Lion, from The Care Bears. I can't unsee it.

This morning's quick reminder: generative AI is a natural resource-guzzling plagiarism machine that exploits creatives to enrich tech bros. Do not use it to create art or writing. Do not conduct "fun" experiments with it to show us how awful it is. There is no ethical use for AI. Let it die.

Laura Dern on David Lynch is, unsurprisingly, an exquisite read 😭 www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

They will go after Wikipedia. They will go after libraries. They will go after school boards and public extracurricular activities that are anything but sports. They will go after archives. Because knowledge, education, culture, and progressives are all the enemy. Thinking is the enemy.

I don’t know what to say. I’m grateful for the art he gave us in the time he was given. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and collaborators. Lynch was one of a kind, and even that undersells him.

“I believe life is a continuum, and that no one really dies, they just drop their physical body and we'll all meet again, like the song says. It's sad but it's not devastating if you think like that... It's a continuum, and we're all going to be fine at the end of the story.” — David Lynch

David Lynch was one of the first directors I felt connected to when I really started paying attention to movies. Much like Bowie, he just felt like a permanent fixture in the universe that would somehow go on forever. What a brilliant career and human being.
