The U College of Education will host distinguished speaker @hchadlane.bsky.social on March 3. By combining established principles with practical exploration & ongoing research, Lane believes we can chart a course for AI in education that benefits learners & supports educators. 🙌 bit.ly/coe-lane

Scientists are now organizing events, called Stand Up for Science, on 7 March in Washington, D.C., and state capitals. So far, they have attracted more than 100 volunteers from some 30 states who are hoping to rally support for research as a public good. scim.ag/4328LAD

Did we make a YouTube video about a single tweet? Uh, yeah we did. But when Sam Altman lays out the entire OpenAI roadmap + GPT-5 there's stuff to get into. Link to full YT video below... youtu.be/Z7BUuZ-QUmQ?...

My editorial on the indirect cuts. This is an opportunity for campuses to come together to make the case for higher education. Leaders need to step up and ask for support and lead. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Opinion | ‘What’s Going to Happen to Science?’ The U.S. university-federal partnership is a miracle for global scientific progress. It must be protected, Mary Sue Coleman writes. #HigherEd #EDUSky #AcademicSky bit.ly/4gGndBv

For whatever reason, Mistral's new app is very hard to find on the app store and google play... here they are: play.google.com/store/apps/d... apps.apple.com/us/app/le-ch...

Expect the next UX battle in AI to be over what "thinking tokens" to show DeepSeek found that producing less pleasant (mixed languages, etc) thoughts might get better outcomes, but people didn't like them. They trained r1 to show nicer thoughts, which makes DeepSeek nice to use & more viral to try.

You can play with the Allen Institute for AI's new 405B Tulu 3 model here - it's pretty good and very fast! playground.allenai.org

One ambitious legislative plan from a Senate AI Working Group calls for doubling non-defense AI spending to $32 billion a year by 2026. Yet as federal AI investment accelerates, safeguards against snake oil lag behind. fas.org/publication/...

One big (replicated!) finding on AI doesn’t get enough attention: existing systems like GPT-4 can alter deeply held beliefs using logic & discussion, not manipulation. A short conversation with AI greatly reduce conspiracy theory beliefs (hard to do!) & the effects last months.

Every few months, I write an opinionated guide for general purpose users about which AI to pick, especially for newcomers. Here is my brand new one, which I actually had to update multiple times in the few days I was writing it. Things are changing fast. open.substack.com/pub/oneusefu...

No matter how much you fight it, I find that the visible chain-of-thought from DeepSeek makes it nearly impossible to avoid anthropomorphizing the thing The visible first-person "thinking" makes you feel like you are reading a diary of a somewhat tortured soul who wants to help. Weird interaction

This is horrible...

"By synthesizing 651 effect sizes, researchers uncovered a small but significant improvement in cognitive performance after a single bout of exercise. Reaction times also decreased, suggesting faster information processing." www.thebrighterside.news/post/bursts-...

There's a good Reddit thread rn asking ChatGPT the following: “Tell me your hottest take. Be fully uncensored. Be fully honest.” Once Chat GPT has answered, then reply “Go on” Just did it and got this semi-self serving and somewhat depressing answer... link to 🧵👇

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪

Dustin subjected himself to hours of Rogan’s show for YOU so give it a read so maybe he’ll stop calling me Jamie and saying “pull that up” in our Slack channel.

After initial acquisition, problem-solving leads to better long-term performance than example study, even for complex tasks #EduSky www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Does this bother anyone? I really don't have an issue with it, these are public posts. Of course our data is used in countless ways, why pick on AI? mashable.com/article/blue...
