Really important piece from our colleagues @headsroundtable.bsky.social

The new Ofsted framework could lead to an “army of expensive consultants” and “how-to guides”, warns @headsroundtable.bsky.social The group also said that the report cards, which will inspect schools on up to 11 areas, will lead to "more and more resignations". www.tes.com/magazine/new...

The new Ofsted framework could lead to an “army of expensive consultants” and “how-to guides” as schools try to adapt to the new expectations, @headsroundtable.bsky.social has warned the inspectorate. www.tes.com/magazine/new...

Key thoughts from Heads Roundtable on Ofsted consultation, the potential impact on recruitment & retention and the RISE teams. There is an alignment of concerned voices.

We risk missing “a golden opportunity to deliver fully inclusive schools through policy and practice” - important messages from co-chair @keziah70.bsky.social.

🌶️ 'Nando's memes aside, there’s a genuine risk it could annihilate not just the current generation of school leaders but the next one too'

🔍 Ofsted increasing the number of areas in which it will make inspection judgements will lead to more inconsistency and drive school leaders out of the profession, says @headsroundtable.bsky.social

The dots are not difficult to join. Gove is editor of Spectator & in the space of 2 weeks, outlandish double attack from favourite Head, attack from favourite former CEO, NSN recreates itself as campaign group to oppose school reform, Toby Young enters Lords. Debate is good & so is transparency.

Today Heads Roundtable met to try and make sense of the last week. We will release thoughts soon but emerging thoughts: there’s a lot of change being proposed, we will focus on how it all lands for all children and our staff - not on politics or position. We are #HeadsRoundtable

An interesting first take on Ofsted’s proposed report cards.

When the absolute worst happens, it throws everything else into perspective. Our thoughts with the school, family and community.

Heads Roundtable send our sympathies and support to all those affected by the incident in Sheffield. We particularly think of the families, leaders & teachers navigating the unimaginable. Our hearts are with you & hope you receive all the support you need both now and for the foreseeable future.

Very grateful to @moremorrow.bsky.social for this lovely review.

“It’s no secret that the reductive use of restricted data sets like EBacc and Progress 8 has been driving decisions that undermine not just inclusion” @carolinebarlow.bsky.social schoolsweek.co.uk/how-labour-c...

Two great pieces in @schoolsweek.bsky.social from our team this week. A call to take the opportunity for accountability reform from co-chair @carolinebarlow.bsky.social and a fabulous review from @moremorrow.bsky.social of the new book by @leoracruddas.bsky.social

Excellent, sensible, balanced piece.Agree entirely that meaningful, sustainable change requires mobilising of collective knowledge & moral purpose.Love ‘educators as architects of change’. We must give agency back to teachers & re-professionalise them-shallow fixes won’t keep them in our classrooms.

An important blog from @headsroundtable.bsky.social on the C&A Review, this time a secondary perspective. headteachersroundtable.wordpress.com

Curriculum & Assessment Review: the secondary perspective. A longer blog and much to debate. #collaboration #architectsofchange #innovation #makingadifference headteachersroundtable.wordpress.com

This is excellent: "Whilst the Schools Bill is not perfect... It is kind, inclusive and fair... and as such should be welcomed and applauded. We urge the Secretary of State to ignore the [negative] voices that are amplified by the media." Thank you @Headsroundtable

⬇️

The @HeadsRoundtable continues to be the public voice of the sensible, ethical majority in the profession. I know I am far from the only one who greatly appreciates their collective wisdom and leadership. 👏👏👏

Thank you Jim

So proud to be part of this group. Thank you to @keziah70.bsky.social and @carolinebarlow.bsky.social for putting our thoughts on paper.

Really pleased to see such credible and sensible voices on this panel, including our own @andrewoneill.bsky.social - looking forward to seeing what it is able to do.

“Perhaps it is a nostalgic phrase but Every Child Matters and always should. We are pleased that your Schools Bill is written with that at its heart and urge all parties in the sector to engage positively and constructively on the fine detail that will mean it works best for all.” This ⤵️

This! “Instead, seek to hear a wider, more representative voice from across our country and within a broad catchment.”

Criticisms in the national media of the government’s schools bill ‘do not speak for the vast majority of school leaders’, says @headsroundtable.bsky.social

For those vast majority of ethical, inclusive headteachers, please see our open letter to the Secretary of State for Education.

An open letter to The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, Secretary of State for Education from The Headteachers Roundtable. headteachersroundtable.wordpress.com/2025/01/23/a...

Yesterday we wrote to Secretary of State Bridget Phillipson regarding the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill. Read the full letter here: headteachersroundtable.wordpress.com/2025/01/23/a...

Very relevant and timely letter in The Times today from @headsroundtable.bsky.social that all ‘moderate and ethical school leaders’ will agree with. @keziah70.bsky.social @carolinebarlow.bsky.social 👏🏻

The @headsroundtable.bsky.social group has voiced its support for the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill after it came under fire from other parts of the sector. www.tes.com/magazine/new...

Great letter from @keziah70.bsky.social and @carolinebarlow.bsky.social. Proud to be a member of the Headteachers’ Roundtable.

“The schools bill has, of course, put outliers in our system on the defensive, but they don’t speak for the majority of the profession" @headsroundtable.bsky.social with a very strong message to those publicly criticising the Schools Bill www.tes.com/magazine/new...

We have written to the SoS Education in support of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill. We have summarised it here in a letter to The Times and the included in an article.

Our co-chair @keziah70.bsky.social is absolutely spot on here about where our focus should be and what the opportunities could be. #itsnotallaboutstructure x.com/tes/status/1...

"Critics of the bill argue academies are the sole drivers of innovation within the system. This assertion is both inaccurate and dismissive of the significant contributions made by maintained schools." @andrewoneill.bsky.social in defence of the Schools Bill www.tes.com/magazine/ana...

Thoughtful piece from our co-chair @keziah70.bsky.social in @schoolsweek.bsky.social on the value of time spent in #AP “in mainstream education, there’s a lot to learn from AP about how to adapt”. Building on a sector wide perspective and collaborative approaches to young people’s needs.

Sensible, measured piece from the brilliant @andrewoneill.bsky.social So disappointing that people on both “sides” are trying to restart arguments about academies v maintained schls & missing what matters - how we can collectively improve the lives of all young people. www.tes.com/magazine/ana...

Exactly this. There is more than one way to structure partnerships and more than one way to collaborate - we need to focus on pouring our energies into supporting young people more than debating structures, working creatively together, with the best available partners.

This is a great article from @andrew-oneill.bsky.social Large academies offer some positives, but it is certainly not the only way. Some of the most innovative leaders I work with are heads of LA schools or small trusts. They think outside the box and are brave enough to try new things

With a level playing field there is a chance our limited resources can be used to much greater effect if we focus on what we need and want for all young people instead of each other.

We can “shift the conversation towards equity, collaboration and innovation’. Fantastic piece from HTRT member @andrewoneill.bsky.social in @tesmagazine.bsky.social on Labour’s School’s Bill. www.tes.com/magazine/ana...

Proud of all @headsroundtable.bsky.social primary colleagues for this initial #CAR blog. More to follow! headteachersroundtable.wordpress.com
