I believe we have breaking news in Inside Medicine. I spoke to a member of the FDA vaccine committee who confirmed that the meeting to decide the 2025-2026 flu shot composition was abruptly canceled today. My on-the-record Q&A with the FDA advisor: insidemedicine.substack.com/p/scoop-fda-...

Made some signs tonight to get ready to #standupforscience 🧪 @standupforscience.bsky.social

Jury selection just wrapped in the Energy Transfer v. Greenpeace trial. By my count: 7 of 11 of the jurors have ties to the fossil fuel industry. 3 work at fossil fuel companies 3 have husbands with industry ties 1 has mineral rights I'll be here all month covering the trial for Drilled.

🧵This. If an elected doesn't hold townhalls, do like @indivisible.org & go to their offices with a few friends. -Tell your local paper (of any size) when & where you'll be -Take a lot of pictures & post to social -Write a letter to the editor* of that paper about what happened *LTE tips, next! 1/

Wondering if your study section cancelled? I update this sheet daily. As of today, 56/124 study sections that should have met since Jan 2, 2025 have "not met as scheduled." docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

A great op ed if you want to share in your non science circles www.heraldbanner.com/opinion/colu...

Any institution dismantling programs over vague ideological threats were never truly committed to them.

Although we are not federally funded for this summer, WE WILL STILL RUN The National Summer Undergraduate Research Project (NSURP) in 2025. We remain committed to the work that needs to be done and will continue to meet people where they are. 1/4 nsurp.org

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

Concerning with the Texas measles outbreak: One pt w/ measles visited college campus in San Marcos on Feb 14th One pt w/ measles visited college campus in San Antonio on Feb 15th (hopefully before pt infectious) For those who have not been vaccinated 💉 , please get MMR ASAP.

“For the last 75 yrs, the NIH has been the biggest funder of biomedical research in the world. Most advances in medicine were seeded by NIH funding. When we became scientists, we just bought into this system. This is how it works. — @tuthill.bsky.social 🧵 www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This was supposed to be a post about my lab's first funding of the year, a diversity supplement to fund our amazing research technician. The award never arrived. Now it's a post about the value of diversity and trying to persevere in these dark times. devinenilab.org/news/diversi...

“More than a quarter of the contracts listed by DOGE were actually already paid, the Journal found, saving no money. For instance, DOGE listed $168,000 in savings for terminating a contract with HHS for an Anthony Fauci museum exhibit. It had already been fully paid.” Beyond parody.

I want to see every scientific society going into emergency mode. This is a good example of how an organization can flex its specific power in a time of great need. What else is possible?

Everyone who ever got funding through NIAID should be aware of this bill and start sending messages to their US legislators. The bill intends to dissolve NIAID. This is Project 2025 www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

Pritzker: If we don’t want to repeat history, then for god’s sake, in this moment, we better be strong enough to learn from it.

According to one current NSF employee, yesterday's mass firings cost the agency "decades of experience." From @cenmag.bsky.social: Here's what we know about the recent layoffs at federal agencies and the ripple effects they're expected to have on US science. cen.acs.org/careers/empl...

41/47 (87%) of NIH study sections are cancelled this week Frustrating to see all this good research stalled (& not funded) You can search for study sections that ‘did not meet as scheduled’ here with ones with * ⤵️ www.csr.nih.gov/RevPanelsAnd...

Thorough and thoughtful advice from someone who clearly has the skillset and expertise we need at NSF.

New: At least 8 lawsuits are trying to block DOGE from accessing sensitive govt data, from tax returns to student-loan records. All of them rely in part on the Privacy Act of 1974. But what is this law — and can it stop Elon Musk? My @wired.com story: www.wired.com/story/privac...

An inspiring article on courageous community college leaders who are *publicly* organizing and standing up against DEI attacks.. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

In today's episode of doomerism isn't a strategy, here's a list of things you can do today to make the world around you suck a little bit less: Pick ONE thing and do it. bsky.app/profile/itsa...

Yes, with vaccines.

The hypocrisy, but also, there’s a whole lot of people who report that the presidential fitness test was traumatic. We have very little (no?) evidence that trying to run a mile and do pull ups in front of your classmates makes people more likely to engage in or enjoy physical activity

Just because they confirmed RFK Jr today, I am resharing this good news: No cervical cancer cases detected in vaccinated women following HPV immunisation publichealthscotland.scot/news/2024/ja...

My opinion as an actual NIH-funded researcher (unlike Vinay) at ucsf: his lies about how NIH dollars are used reflect a complete lack of understanding of how research is performed, a lack of respect for research, and are harmful to the entire biomedical research enterprise #grifter

Today is the international day of the Woman and Girl in Science. To all badass women, scientists keep doing what you do: discovery, mentorship, and hard work. YOU belong in SCIENE. To others, uplift the Women scientists you know, cite them, promote them, sponsor them, invite them - be an upstander.

Under fascism, no one is safe. Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc. Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations. Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

If no one is organizing, then you can be the organizer. 👊❤️ Just start by emailing friends who also care. Go from there.

Unbelievable speed of ATTEMPTS to dismantle science. They tried this 💩 in the first admin, proposing cuts to 10%, and it was resisted by Congress Call your congresspeople, and remind them they have defended health research before, and they can do so again

Special Bluetorial: The benefits of different life experiences The scientific community has folks with a very wide range of life experiences. We have a lot to learn from one another.

Get somebody in this room who knows that the word “transgenic” does not mean “transgendered”
