The first preprint from my PhD is out: osf.io/preprints/ps...! 🥳 We explored the temporal dynamics of four careless responding indicators (response time, within-beep standard deviation, an inconsistency index, occasion-person correlation) in ESM data across different samples. Thread below🧵

Hey folks, I'm looking for examples of neuroscience-driven consumer tech (brain training apps, use-at-home devices, other) for a course I'm teaching. Can you suggest recent examples? *You don't have to endorse them* (that's part of what the students will think about) Please RT for visibility

In the wake of uncertain PhD admissions, rescinded offers, increasing rejections, I'm wondering if prospective PhD students would like a forum to come together and discuss next steps. I've hosted "next steps" programming in the past and would be happy to put something together. Let me know!

I was having an emotion, and I hate that.

I told OPM what I did last week

Once upon a time, some villagers came across a large, ornate wooden box in the local woods. On the side of the box was a message: “Whatever money you put in this box will, in future, grow to become 2.5 times larger.” 1/

Ugh-- this is terrible for so many reasons. Two on mind right now: 1) PhD-granting institutions can't function without PhD students. 2) Applicants pay a lot to apply! This disproportionately affects lower-means folks. Places that reduce or stop PhD admissions should refund application fees.

For those keeping track, we are now at 2 weeks with no new R01s funded. Still only 18 new ("01") grants are fellowships/Ks, a few admin supplements, one R35, and one R03. Same 2-week period in 2024: 143 new grants were awarded and 41 R01s. Devastating.

Some news! I’m excited to share that I recently began a term as the new Open Science Editor at Infant and Child Development, working with Sara Hart and an amazing international group of associate editors. What this will look like… 🧵

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

Considering everything that's going on, this seems likely a timely announcement: Our primer on emotion regulation is out now! 🤩 We break down what emotion regulation is, why it matters, and how to assess & improve it. 🤓 doi.org/10.1093/acre... #PsychSciSky #AffectiveScience #EmotionRegulation

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)
