Organising a boycott against US products using Facebook is somewhat both a tragedy and a comedy. But most of all it's telling how much power over our democracies we've let the US grab without even allowing the discussion about it.

My heart ached when I was reminded that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted for trying to make academic knowledge more accessible to the public. Meta, meanwhile, is doing it for their own bottom line. I'm going to guess that no one at Meta will be looking at spending 35 years in jail for this.

The thing with DEI, like with most culture war nonsense, is that it's not hard to find a few people or programs that are silly/poorly thought out/performative. But using that to attack the underlying concept is like saying "eating at restaurants is dangerous" because you once got food poisoning.

Our lack of universal basic income only helps men be assholes and results in a significant percentage of women actually accepting hostage situations as better than poverty. If we had UBI, far fewer women would accept that deal, and far more men would need to treat women better or be forever alone.
