Love seeing this fab film get the love it deserves (especially since it almost didn't get made because it was too Jewish--and some otherwise very smart feminists read it as a backlash film!)

“It was Duty who gave the call . . . to shoot indiscriminately at the Matinecock Indians, so that they could safely settle and begin to spread the good news of Christian brotherly love.”—Taffy Avner Brodesser #SundaySentence

An advisor like that is worth a price above rubies—as is an advisee who is smart enough to know she has been handed a gem for a lifetime

Missed this in Jan, but even more relevant now. "You see, taxes are an implicit acknowledgment that I exist within society and not above it. That my fate is tethered to the fate of humanity at large. That I am not the special little boy I’ve always believed myself to be."

In praise of competent and caring professionals. We should be letting them do their jobs and not put obstacles in their way that make all of us less safe.

Nice looking bird with a smart, pithy message.

This hits differently in these times than it did in 1979.

Turns out those basic research and critical thinking skills associated with the humanities might be valuable after all, eh?

As usual, @effinbirds.com nail it!

The psychoanalytic concept of projection at work.

Also useful to note that DVDs often have director commentary and special features that are not available through streaming.

So looking forward to the writing that emerges from this visionary and much-needed program. Congrats, mazel/mazal tov to all!

As we begin the celebration of Black History Month, I am thinking of those who stood up, spoke out, and took action when they saw injustices in the world – people like my friend, John Lewis. Carrying that spirit and their legacy with me this month and always.

In praise of science (she says in a Brooklyn stage whisper)

@barbrastreisand.bsky.social's "Don't Lie to Me" came to mind for some inexplicable reason today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNrj...

Jews need to call out antisemitism on the left and the right (including in higher ed). But we shouldn't let corrupt, anti-democratic pols instrumentalize antisemitism (i.e., use legitimate Jewish fear & pain to do their nefarious work). Just saying.

Yesterday's @jwaonline.bsky.social's academic advisory council meeting confirmed yet again that they are the real, visionary deal.

Yep. And reflected in voting patterns.

That punim and that wagging tail! Pure joy.

"'The editing became extremely intrusive. It was very much toning down of my voice, toning down of the feel, and a lot of pressure for what I considered false equivalence.' And, increasingly, attempts 'to dictate the subject.'” www.cjr.org/analysis/pau...

A beautiful story about chef Charles Phan, whose memory is clearly a blessing. Thanks for this much-needed gift, @marjorieingall.bsky.social
