In recent weeks the collapse of this policy has been demonstrated by the wave of redundancies engulfing British universities. liberalengland.blogspot.com/2025/02/runn...

Someone pointed out that this poem is from 2014. It immediately captured a truth that was already important, so it feels 'timeless' but it was in the early days of this wave, more than 10 years ago now, so it feels prescient.

I think this has to be one of the best digital reconstructions I've seen in a long time. Is that an enclosing embankment and rampart behind it? could this be one for #HillfortsWednesday?

A blinder of a play. Brilliantly acted and stunningly re-imagined and directed. I loved the Oracle and Jocasta’s animosity towards it, her words of ‘it feeds on your fear’ was just so powerful. #theoldvictheatre

The juxtaposition of a mammoth reduced to the barest line, with the most human of symbols in blood-red ochre. Yes, there is probably something to decode, but first it's important to share the awe that human art can persist for such spans of time. That we can still encounter it. Chauvet ~32,000 🏺🦣

#MosaicMonday some weekdays are rougher than others and arguably Monday might be the roughest! This Amazon warrior seems to be having a bit of a rough time as well, trying to fend off a well-armoured enemy. #AncientBluesky🏺

#FrescoFriday - An absolute corker of a Roman fresco with this panel showing the myth of Admetus and Alcestis: likely from the Augusteum at Herculaneum, discovered 25 November 1739. What dazzling details! #Archaeology #AncientBluesky 🏺 Image: National Archaeological Museum, Naples (9027)

#FrescoFriday - Panel of Venus and Mars from the south wall of the tablinum of the House of Punished Love, Pompeii (VII.2.23). But my eye's always drawn to the attendant with her box! Discovered 5 August 1844. #Pompeii #AncientBluesky 🏺 Image: National Archaeological Museum, Naples (9249)

Stop worrying about bats and newts? No Rachel Reeves MP – start worrying about the future of our economy if we tear down the nature it depends on. Nature isn’t a blocker; it’s the foundation of growth.

It's a sign of the times that, pre-publication, this HE redundancies article started out as a story about UEA with Durham added. Then Kent was added...then Cardiff. A microcosm of UK HE right now, and a typical day in the life at the moment. www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-u...

So intriguing!🙃 Analysis of ancient #DNA suggests female family ties were at the heart of Celtic #Britain, pointing to female empowerment: #women inherited land & husbands moved to their wives’ communities, a practice known as #matrilocality. @tcddublin.bsky.social @bournemouthuni.bsky.social
