Just a wee reminder that now is a particularly good time to order a lampshade if you're in Marlborough or Canterbury (or anywhere on the Mainland)! I'll be down soon, and have slots available right now in my work schedule for lampshades. www.thesewphist.com/product-cate...

Hey everyone! Today all the donations/sponsonships to my Sweat With Pride fundraiser are being matched, so are essentially doubled for today. If you could spare a few dollars to make Aotearoa NZ a better place for rainbow minorities, it would be massively appreciated! 🏳️‍🌈❤️🏳️‍🌈

Ayup. Real talk at the table

In libraries, we call this vocational awe. The idea that if you are invested in your calling, you should accept low wages/inhumane conditions is a nasty little trick of capitalism. I’m an author, I’m hungry, I care deeply about my work, AND I deserve to be paid for it.

Scrapping the census is a good way to make sure decisions are made on bad data or no data just (almost certainly racist) vibes. You can ignore what you can't see. You won't catch our poorest most marginalised in admin data and surveys. I'm furious. This is societal vandalism. It's outrageous.

I am looking for critiques of braiding sweetgrass from Indigenous scholars can anyone point me in the right direction?

In today’s NZ Herald #nzpol

Sweat with Pride is matching donations today, up to a whopping $60k - so help us raise money for InsideOUT, the Burnett Foundation, Outline, and RainbowYouth - their work is so, so vital www.sweatwithpride.com/fundraisers/...

It’s double dollars day. Your donations will be matched from now until the $60,000 is used up. Let’s get to $2,500! Donate here: www.sweatwithpride.com/fundraisers/...

I'm sorry, this woman runs an ARCADE and has 50 part time workers? Why not employ some people full time? Also, of course sick leave use went up SINCE 2019 WE HAD A FUCKING GLOBAL PANDEMIC THAT IS STILL GOING ON. And your primary customers are children, walking disease vector!

RNZ digging in on the alex story (www.webworm.co/p/lifeanddea...) backing their reporting, saying "we don’t have those messages, so are unable to verify them" um... rnz journalist ruth hill *was* offerered the messages after she published. RNZ needs to talk to their journalist.

Since the cards are out I'll do a few one card oracle cards tonight or tomorrow. Reply with an emoji if you'd like one.

Wtf? They released her?

Ka pai Nicola. Grow Grow Grow. A 1.5% wage bump. Just enough to stare at the cheese aisle from a respectful distance, then go home and shiver in the dark to afford dinner. This isn’t a cost of living plan. It’s a test of survival. #CostOfLiving #nzpol #OneTermGovt

So it begins. 10-year outsourcing contracts for private hospitals? It’s a sell-off. You don’t lock in health equity with private contracts to those who profit from illness. You lock out the public. The corporate takeover of our health system is now official policy. #PublicHealthCrisis #NZPol

It is actually a story that the Prime Minister of New Zealand lied about Covid being “gone” when the facts categorically say that it is not and the expert recommendation is that we do more to respond. Public health is being deliberately undermined and the call is coming from inside the house.

You can pre-order Who Killed Nessie by me and @rachaelsmith.bsky.social out in September from @averyhill.bsky.social now! (It was sold out for a few minutes earlier today. I think they had to update the copies available!) averyhillpublishing.bigcartel.com/product/who-...

Sick leave is a right, not a reward. Cutting it punishes low-paid workers, single parents, and especially Māori and Pacific women. Pro-rating fuels inequality, risks outbreaks, and betrays the workers who carried us through COVID. @whaeadeb.bsky.social #NZPol #Unions #OneTermGovt

To help strengthen the activism, and advocacy opposing the Regulatory Standards Bill in New Zealand, I’ve created a Google NotebookLM with 30 key resources, including the documents mentioned in killtheregulatorystandardsbill.com. Access it here notebooklm.google.com/notebook/193...
