Not far, eastwards, from Ghent is located the castle of Laarne. A prime example of a late medieval defensive castle surrounded by a moat. Altered during later times to accommodate comfortable housing. The castle houses an important silver collection.

Exploring the grid. Old sketches i made of urban planning, with ottoman, byzantine architectural styles in mind, i was inspired by during my many visits to Turkey, in reaction to the contemporary urban planning. When using a grid, a variation of public spaces to create a sense of place is needed.
