Here’s a view of the site with California Peonies. #californianativeplants

Today was a day for native plants with maroon flowers. I found my way back to a wonderful group of Paeonia californica, California Peony. Stunning and lush during the Spring on dry slopes. #californianativeplants

Wandering in the Los Osos State Oaks Reserve, I found a massive patch of Ribes menziesii, Canyon Gooseberry. I love the reflexed sepals. #nativecaliforniaplants #california

Nature sketch walk yesterday with group of sketchers. The ceanothus smells heavenly. Lots of European bees. The native bees don’t seem to be out yet. Watercolor pencil and pen. I threw in some words that came to me. #naturejournal #californianativeplants #honeybee #ceanothus

Some beautiful manzanitas to bring us a little Joy.

Afternoon sunlight. #stilllifephotography

What a great birding day yesterday at Santa Rita Ranch in Templeton California! Pardon my clunky drawing. That eagle was absolutely regal! Thank you Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo for protecting this heritage ranch. #birds #landconservancy #naturejournal

I was very lucky to find this. Each guttation droplet has its own little vortex. Some mushrooms can create their own thermals that actively eject the spores. The drops have captured this process. (the Netherlands) #fungifriends

New poll finds that 70% of readers of the scientific journal Nature use Bluesky! www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Begonia seed pods. Love how you can see the seeds inside. Squeaking in here. Stems could be called magenta, even though the flowers are pink. #MagentaMonday

Wikipedia says Ramalina menziesii, lace lichen. Pattern unlike any other lichen in NAmerica. Lace lichen is an important food source for deer in the Calif Coast Range, and nest material for birds. Recognize as the state lichen of California, the first lichen so honored. #lichen #oaktrees

Despite not much rain so far, fungi are doing their thing in the prickly leaf litter. California coastal dwarf oaks growing on ancient sand dunes. #wildfungi #oaktrees #Iloveoaks

Right near the neighborhood wooded path. #nature #wildfungi

First time using this little journal. Watercolor pencil sketch of the field next door. Heavy texture hides a multitude of sins. #naturejournaling #coloredpencils #neverAI

It was over a year ago, we spent 3 weeks in #newzealand. The high point was trekking the Hooker Valley Track on the South Island, at the base of Mt. Cook, Aoraki. Here's a trailer. youtu.be/X_gUpbobO6A?... #travel #newzealandplants See the full 5 minute video here: youtu.be/D4nNwHbcTbQ

Otters in October. #naturejournaling

Arctostaphylos’Austin Griffiths’ planted 2 yrs ago. It’s first big bloom! It’s liking the sandy coastal soil.

Pot doing double duty. Juncus patens, common Rush, hard to see but growing in the center, surrounded by seasonal paper white narcissus. These blooms are the 4th harvest for indoor bouquets. #nativeplants

I caught this last year when Santa visited the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens. His face just melts my heart. Oh to be naïve again. youtube.com/shorts/49UVC...

Elk numbers went up in every state wolves were present. Who can tell me why that happened.

As I look back at 2024 personally, I’m most excited about joining a nature journaling group and messing about with watercolor colored pencils. #naturejournaling

Perfect and grounding for the season. The audiobook from Libby features beautiful Irish narration. Pass this book through US Congress. #booksky

California Buckeye, Aesculus californica decorated for the holidays at San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens. This tree drops its leaves in dry season, leafs out in rainy season. Drought adaptation.

Blue Gum Eucalyptus are so messy but irresistibly photogenic. Morro Rock in the distance.
