this is from a new report on a “third way” on DEI and it is unbelievably naive, which in my view is emblematic of the author, rich kahlenberg, whose willingness to extend good faith to obvious bad faith actors borders on gullibility www.progressivepolicy.org/a-way-out-of...

Heroic Dog Saves Family Of 5 From Herb-Roasted Chicken

A Delta flight carrying ~80 passengers from Minnesota appears to have crash landed at Toronto Pearson Airport. No casualties reported as of this time. Numerous photos and videos have been released showing passengers safely exiting the plane, which flipped upside down. At least 8 people injured.

Can only speak for myself but I’ve heard some reeeeally rough stories. At the end I do a thing that feels gross, which is *ask their permission* to share their story to put a face on what is happening. As a moral/ethical matter we can’t share stories without consent and we defo can’t put them on TV-

So just putting it out there, any candidates for our next FDR? Cause we're pretty fucked otherwise

‘You Can’t Let This Happen,’ Says Fundraising Email From Sitting U.S. Congressperson

NIH stuff is yet another example for their being only one game in town for Real Problems. yep, admin bloat is an issue in many ways. nope, you don't address this by overnight de facto massively cutting science budgets across the country. you can't work on Real Problems with republicans , sorry.

Of course anyone paying attention knows this is how Trump would behave. But I think a significant part of Dem messaging needs to be that Trump lied to the American people about what he was going to do. The only alternative is the much worse—that Trump is doing exactly what America wanted

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

All people imprisoned by the state deserve healthcare. To deny healthcare to anyone because a far-right party will weaponise treating them as human beings as a public outrage is to give in to a right-wing moral panic. This is obvious to anyone that actually thinks about this logic

"We obviously can't do anything" is not a tenable response to a crisis brought about by actors using every lever at their disposal to do things no one thought they could do.

This is an absolutely remarkable memo — and a betrayal of both the Constitution and the American political tradition. In the US, by *explicit contrast* with interwar fascist governments, the state is not supposed to be an extension of the personality of the chief executive.

They targeted gamers. Gamers.

Is American quiet quitting democracy?

Lots of people out there saying, "at least by fucking everything up they're showing how incompetent they are, which will turn voters against them." I just wonder where in the world people get this hope. America made it all the way through the election in near-total ignorance. Why would that change?

Do I know if the Democrats' messaging will click? Not really. Does Chuck Schumer look silly at these rallies? You could say that. But I remember covering the early Tea Party rallies in February 2009, when the CW was "look at this stupid shit, do Republicans actually want to associate w this?"

this is right. on our current track the Constitution is done, kaput www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/o...

My depressing thought for the day: it seems increasingly inevitable that quite soon, Trump decides to simply disregard a court finding that some of his actions are illegal or unconstitutional. Impeachment is attempted & fails thanks to loyal Republicans. At which point there are no good options.

Dems in Disarray

Lot of people reminded today of Thomas Paine's "Times that try men's souls" essay after the opening lines quoted to cheers at the Treasury rally. The rest of it is worth getting familiar with again too! Paine is, in the media of his time, posting through it at a moment when it looked so over. 🧵/

In this Ohio town, it was tradition: Latin mass, sausage at Bob Evans, and then down to the old Treasury Department servers to download every American’s Social Security number. But now the woke mob wants to take all that away.

Ah, yes, I’m sure no prior administration thought to ask how all the payments are made.

Not to worry as it’s only a tier 1 violation of the Constitution and, as everyone knows, it only really becomes a problem at tier 3 and above.

A perplexing development on this website is the emergence of accounts that get extremely upset when you suggest that the Democrats should do more to fight Trump and Musk

Dems should run a video series where they interview a government worker, have them explain how they serve the American people and why. Keep it 5-10 minutes. In the middle of every video, ask them how they and their colleagues feel about Trump and Musk's actions
