Feels like we are entering an era where the hushed conversation in a lot of (all-white) media boardrooms is, in careful euphemism, “we’re not hiring black people in major roles anymore” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/23/b...

I want to make it clear that no executive order can change federal law and every executive order trump has signed has expressly disclaimed the intent to. The screenshot is from the DEI EO. That’s before you get to courts actually blocking big parts of it. And yet the overcompliance is legion.

I'm gonna remind people that I feel pretty strongly that if you bought one of my ebooks legitimately, then you own the book and however you secure that ownership is fine by me mashable.com/article/how-...

Hello! I'm trying to get on Vgen so if you like my art, it would help a lot if you could repost/like!!! I do character art and pokemon art! I will be here: vgen.co/robindraws I need to hit 20 reposts/100 likes~ #VGenCode

I grew up in a community with a lot of un- and under-vaccinated kids (myself included). It's been so hopeful to me to see that they overwhelmingly caught up on vaccines as soon as they were the ones making choices, and that they get their own children vaccinated on schedule.

I still believe in Gene Roddenberry's vision for the future

“I am grateful to Connecticut for banning the death penalty,” said a woman whose son was executed with drugs linked to a company in the state. “But it is deeply troubling to me that Connecticut companies are still profiting from it.” boltsmag.org/connect...

Oh this! The Democrats embracing genocide and not fighting it took away so many of the people who usually help on policy stuff. Like people are all up in arms about who everyone voted for but what really hurt them is the lack of organizers

Elon Musk's first ex-wife (who is a novelist) wrote this harrowing account of his insane behavior back in 2010. Sadly, way too many people ignored it. www.marieclaire.com/sex-love/a53...

And again, as more & more of these people emerge in this state of cognitive dissonance, it's vital we reach these 200-300k people and listen to their stories while pointing them in the right direction rather than pointing, laughing, or saying they deserve it as all the people replying here would do

A Trump-Musk memo telling US government employees to hide what’s happening from the public is a sign that: 1) Public legitimacy is a constraint for them, they know it, and will at times alter their behavior accordingly 2) Reporters should focus on it, revealing more of what they’re trying to hide

it's sort of incredible to me that more people haven't done what sassoon is doing here: refusing to do an illegal thing, and making a stink about it. feels like it would be popular!!

Read Danielle Sassoon’s letter explaining how Eric Adams’s counsel offered a quid pro quo, Emil Bove told the other DOJ lawyers in the room not to take notes, and then made the deal. static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

Just learned from NPR that the federal government is the largest employer in the great Kansas City area, for example. I found it helpful to be reminded that, of course, this isn’t just about people who work and live in DC. Federal employees are in all of our communities.

A coalition of 18 state attorneys general file suit over Musk’s staff accessing the Treasury payment system, the largest data breach in American history. ag.ny.gov/sites/defaul...

One day of real protests outside and the people who were like "fuck you peasants we owe you no explanations" are now out there with (probably false) cya clarifications. Pressure works. Keep it up. They answer to the people, it is never ever the other way around. www.cnn.com/2025/02/04/p...

Please note: this description of DOGE is a description of an outside agent attacking the US. It more closely resembles how you’d describe a virus attacking an immune system, or an army attacking a country, than intra-governmental push and pull. Musk is an invader.

🤡

This is Martin Mycielski's Authoritarian Checklist from 2017. Their #coup has succeeded in all three branches. Note the only line unchecked: We still have freedom of assembly. We must protest. Follow Germans' example: Resist. Loudly. Now. verfassungsblog.de/the-authorit...

What’s his beef against USAID in particu….oh. Wow.

The CMAs and country music after Cowboy Carter won two country awards and Album of the Year:

A lot y’all leftists and progressives and liberals are annoying as fuck. And often rude. Not being a fascist is actually a very low bar. Learn how to talk, or just listen. So many of your replies feel like they’re from bots or plants actually aiming to wear down black queer folks. BACK UP.

Charli won, Sabrina won, Chappell won, Doechii won, Gaga won, BEYONCÉ WON!!!

anyway im glad we're getting satan gaga back

tonight was beautiful actually

Trans 👏 people 👏 are 👏 not 👏 invisible 👏 Lady Gaga saying what needs to be said as always #Grammys

every country on the planet is going to gain access to whatever is on those DOGE computers because some 19 year old virgin who worships elon musk as a god is going to fall in love with a chatbot

These DOGE guys' phone numbers & addresses are easy to find, in case anyone wants to file a FOIA request for all their communications (including those on any personal devices used to conduct government business), or serve them with evidence preservation demand letters in anticipation of litigation

what kind of stock trades do you think your senator has lined up for tomorrow morning? is that what they're working on tonight instead of figuring out how to get those teenagers out of the servers at the treasury?

I keep thinking how lucky it is that Elon Musk isn't Jewish. Then it might look weird that a foreign billionaire spent $1B to elect a president in exchange for the authority to steal your social security information and cancel congressional grants for children's healthcare

This is a very useful heuristic even if you're not in the US. For the past two years, I've been closing my lectures each year by asking students to think very carefully about the values they live by, as soon they may have to choose whether to stand by them.

Chuck Schumer is posting about the price of pizza

California DOE fires back against Trump's executive order: "It does nothing" "It is against federal law for the White House to dictate what educators can and cannot teach" Will not comply.

The Trump administration on Friday appeared to take down data and information from a variety of government websites, with a focus on information related to gender diversity, sexual health and climate change. With @kalish.bsky.social and @citizencohn.bsky.social: www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

Democrats shld make clear to voters that this gives Musk's private sector employees the power to stop checks to any individual recipient in the US (Soc Sec, vets benefits, Medicare) as well as examine their private financial info. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Patreon.com/katelynburns Idk if its cool to share this right now but I have been working really hard.

So if I’m understanding today correctly, the world’s richest person Elon Musk, whom no one elected, is taking over federal payment systems and employee data while the federal employees who investigate and prosecute public corruption are being fired en masse.

Message to the whole #FBI workforce from Acting Director Brian Driscoll:

As Trump scrubs federal websites of important information, remember that non-profit organizations have been archiving a lot of this information. Internet Archive federal end-of-term crawl: blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e... Environmental Data and Governance Initiative: envirodatagov.org

I keep thinking about how the misrepresentation of the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit convinced Americans that it was too easy to sue corporations — a laughable idea if you think about it for 10 seconds. It's the same with trans kids: The scandal is that care is too hard to get, not too easy.

if you want to set the entire world on fire fucking directly with the US Government payment system really does seem like the fastest way to do it short of a nuclear exchange you cannot play "just stiff all the vendors" with the full faith and credit of the US Government

I've collected accounts from trans folks inside US prisons facing Trump's brutal crackdown: trans women rounded up + placed in solitary before transfer to men's prisons; canceled medical appointments + loss of vital healthcare; vicious taunting "You're going to be a man," one guard told trans women

It would be fantastic if major federal institutions would acknowledge that the executive branch cannot legally unilaterally cancel or redistribute congressionally appropriated funding on ideological grounds and thus they have no legal obligation to comply with such directives
