Earlier on Easter Sunday, JD Vance to Pope Francis: “I know you have not been feeling great but it’s good to see you in better health,” www.reuters.com/world/pope-f...

This country ain’t exactly puttin’ many nights in the Win column lately. But I’m seeing Joshua Ray Walker on a Tuesday and the bartender wasn’t stingy when I ordered a double bourbon, neat. So I’m putting that in the W column, dammit.

Having some fun with "Digital X-pan" format. 65:24, AKA 2.70:1 aspect ratio. The view this afternoon from Mt. Wilson right here in SoCal.

Turns out we weren't wrong in this song, just early. youtu.be/hwHo79ci3ig?...

In the streaming era, I don't always find new release music so much as constantly find albums that are a few months or years old, and it's only new to me. Often, it's decades old if it's timeless music.

Tarkovsky tonight.

"Improper ideology..." Absolutely mental. Do what you need to do to navigate it.

Re-watched Godard's Breathless tonight. Knocked out once more by the scene where Jean Seberg's Patricia asks a writer character: "What is your greatest ambition in life?" The reply is legendary, and for good reason: "To become immortal, and then die." That is a line for the ages.

Morning spin on vinyl, the mighty Jacob “Killer” Miller. Dread, Dread. 1985 Liberty Records reissue of his 1978 album. Going to write about him in a few days. Just getting the day started with his riddims today.

Michael Doherty sent this detailed, close listen to my most recent album. Though the album is 6 months old now, between the fires, the general chaos of the country's politics, and the new normal in the music industry being a moving target at best, I'm going to keep promoting it.

The morning spin on vinyl, Anthology of Tom Waits, 1985 release on Asylum Records. Solid compilation of his early years on the label. Good way to start a Tuesday, by reframing the ordinary with the extraordinary.

If you're awake in Los Angeles, go outside and look up. The eclipse is in totality until 12:31a. I'm posting this at 11:55p. Single exposures, from a sidewalk in Los Feliz.

The morning spin on vinyl is Si Kahn’s album Doing My Job. 1982 release on Flying Fish Records. Go To Work On Monday has long been something of a begrudging anthem around here.

I have found my theme song! youtu.be/zFU0PTsykeU

Glad some of us L.A. singer songwriters got together to play Bill Morrissey songs on Sunday. 2025 makes the 40th anniversary of Bill's label debut album. Unusually detailed write up from Michael Doherty here: michaelsmusiclog.blogspot.com/2025/03/song...

Alright, it's 9:30a on a Friday morning. Janice in Accounting just asked what you're up to this weekend, and it occurred to you that you've made no plans, because it's hard to muster joy in these times. As an antidote to despair, I offer you some live music - on a Sunday afternoon, no less.

Playlist algorithm fed me one too many songs that were slick, overproduced, and damned near lifeless this morning. That's no way to start the day. Thank you to the late great Malcolm Holcombe for the unvarnished reset. youtu.be/GZ6VIAXJqbY?...

Writing on this machine this morning. 1959, and still on the job.

JD Vance claps on the 1 and the 3.

When I was a young journalist, 90's, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, I covered a KKK rally in Georgia. So, I didn't need to tune in 2.0's 99-minute speech tonight.

Dark days indeed, but the soundtrack is good. youtu.be/v0nmHymgM7Y?...

Happy Mardi Gras, everyone. Get loose tonight, shake it out.

JD Vance has been on the job since January 20, and he’s already taking a vacation. 40 days in and he has vacation days? On taxpayer dollars? Perhaps he should be required to send an email to Elon listing rhe 5 things he has done this week to justify his salary.
