Daffodils a-blooming! Another picture sent by Laura to brighten up my day.

Laura sent me a picture of our first crocuses blooming this year. Always puts a smile on my face.

Beautiful day to play with the chainsaw! Got to the point where I need to set it down and walk away for a few days.

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.” John Ruskin And we’ve had a bit of each here lately, and then some. Random pictures of the week from eastern Oklahoma.

Made a little run up to Greenleaf State Park, getting ready for the craft show. Always a good day.

Mornin y’all

I love finding animal tracks in fresh snow. Got down to 9°F overnight so not much stirring about, but ran across squirrel and rabbit along with a lot of bird tracks, and of course, dog and cat.

A little chunk of cedar morphed into this. I was thinking fox, Laura says squirrel. Like many of my carvings and sculptures it is whatever you think it is. Eye of the beholder and the likes.

Rain has turned to snow, and temperatures are dropping. But we’ve got a pot of buffalo stew started, so everything should be alright

“The two great aims of industrialism — replacement of people by technology and concentration of wealth into the hands of a small plutocracy — seem close to fulfillment.” Wendell Berry Someone had mentioned the prescience of Wendell Berry and got me reading more of his stuff. The guy knows his stuff

“I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief... For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.” Wendell Berry Had a few days of fair weather, but looks like we’re in for another hard freeze. Random pictures of the week from eastern Oklahoma.

Not the best evening for a cookout, but managed to coax a few flames out of the damp wood and put together an impromptu meal. Mushrooms, asparagus, and onions with some polish sausage. Cold drinks, warm fire, good tunes, and the woman I love beside me. Life goes on.

Bit of a mist blowing, but still enjoyed a post-Valentine Day hike on the Brushy Lake trails. The doggos thought it was delightful, of course.

Fallen Leaves. One of my favorite things to carve, and simplest. I pick up likely pieces of rock here and there in my travels. They’re popular because I can sell them cheap, but most are given away, or set by trails we hike, or near Geocaches. No matter how many I make, no two ever come out alike.

“If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." - Loren Eiseley Temperature is like a yo-yo these days, but the world is still magical. Random pictures of the week from eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.

Thought maybe some bottlecaps would work for eyes for my spider, so I forced myself to drink a few beers. Rolling Rock, just stuck on with magnets for now.

Ran across this little chunk of driftwood with a nose, so obviously had to carve a face around it.

Too true

“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.” ― Anita Desai Been getting some decent miles in some decent weather. Random pictures of the week from eastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas, and a little bit of Missouri.

Happy National Embroidery Month my friends!

Y’all watch out, this warmer weather seems to have brought out the spiders! Playing around with some scrap metal on this beautiful day. Pancake air tank, propane canister, saw blade, and some tines from a wheel rake.

My little girl You taught me so much About living, and laughing, And loving and such Seeing the world Through your brand new eyes Even the ordinary Seen with surprise Now you’re All grown up In the view of the world, But in my minds-eye Still my little girl. Happy Birthday Jess!

Got to cruise a little bit of Route 66 I’ve never been down around Arcadia, OK. Cool little town, wish I had more time.

Had to make a run up to Carthage, MO, and stopped by Red Oak II. Old historic buildings and cool scrap metal art. Definitely my kinda place, had a blast and found a geocache. Too much fun.

“Twenty-five years, Now that can’t be true, A heartbeat for me, A lifetime for you. Wasn’t so long ago I first held you tight, Then walks in the park, And stories at night. Now you’re all grown up, But every once in a while, Remember to glance At your dad with a smile.” Love you Sweetheart

Saw these scrap metal sculptures at Greenleaf State Park yesterday, giving me some ideas

“Like music and art, love of nature is a common language that can transcend political or social boundaries.” Jimmy Carter Been a few chilly days, but temps are slowly on the rise. Y’all take care of each other out there. Random pictures of the week from eastern Oklahoma.

Shock and Thaw, Baby! Water temp was around 39°F , air about ten degrees higher. Definitely gets your metabolism pumping, and jump-start you out of those mid-winter blues. Beautiful day at Greenleaf State Park, walked a few trails after the adrenaline rush. Love this park!

Slow time at work. Maybe this guy will help with the mice problem. About six inches of cedar.

Driving around my small town today and noticed the flag at half-mast at the fire department, but all the way up at the police station. Just another reason why there isn’t a song called “Fuck The Fire Department “
