It’s murder.

The gap between First Nations and non-First Nations life expectancy in Alberta is 19 years, and wider now than any other point on record. This is a provincial and national emergency. #ableg www.stalbertgazette.com/local-news/f...

One of our longtime Build Up Saskatoon crew members, Warren, recently shared his personal story with CBC Saskatchewan to give them an idea of exactly what it takes to keep someone housed and employed. You can listen to the full episode at this link: www.cbc.ca/listen/cbc-p...

Inclusion Canada estimates that 73% of Canadians with an intellectual disability (who aren't living with family) live in poverty. The Canadian Human Rights Commission also reports that 1 in every 25 people with a disability experiences homelessness, compared to 1 in 100 for people w/o disabilities.

In 2025, if you want to provide nonprofit affordable housing, you also have to provide advocacy and system navigation. The social safety net is dangerously thin and too many people are falling through the gaps. It doesn’t have to be this way.

The decline of my city's downtown core continues. I need cash in my pockets for the seriously destitute people out on the streets with nowhere to spend daytime hours or nights. 1500 homeless, probably 200 shelter/warm up spaces. Small businesses, libraries, restaurants can't carry this load alone.

They live here all year, so chickadees need to be very resourceful. In the warm months they eat mostly bugs but in the winter, lots of seeds and berries and every once in a while you'll see them eating meat from carcasses - a teeny member of Nature's Clean-up Crew! #birds 🌿

Most one-bedroom apartments in Saskatoon's lowest-income neighbourhoods are more than $850/month (utilities not included). People on Saskatchewan Income Support can't afford even the low-end of market-rate rentals and all of our social housing and nonprofit affordable housing is full.

Anyone know why Service Canada has a line up that circles the entire mini golf course at Market Mall in Saskatoon for the last two days? Kind of makes the term a great example of an oxymoron. No offense to the workers. Hire more please!

Happy Sunday!

The first time I heard this song I fell in love with it. One day 💕 youtu.be/FVztZI-OMUg?...

Hi Bluesky! 👋🏻 We're Broadview, an independent Canadian magazine featuring award-winning coverage of spirituality, justice and ethical living. We're excited to start sharing our stories with you!

There are times when I feel my mental illness, my wild heart, & my word-work will always keep me from having a happy home. So I wrote these words to try to survive. Maybe they can help you, too. I long for the day when I can have a home *and* be a song, but until then, I will just keep singing.

Today's pet peeve. After 3 great years of a children's loft bed w/closet, storage and a desk within it, couldn't the designers make the components stand alone enough so that moving it to the next family doesn't require two men and five hours to disassemble and reassemble? Talking 2 u, Jysk!

Congratulations to CUPE Local 2669 — workers at the Saskatoon Public Library — for achieving a new collective agreement! Their job action led to better wages, leave improvements, and protections against working alone.

Opinion: Standardized tests the wrong answer for Saskatchewan schools Saskatchewan already does provincewide testing and student score results suggest the evidence supporting standardized tests is lacking. thestarphoenix.com/opinion/colu... #SKED #Saskatchewan #Education

If you’re in Saskatoon, the Indian & Métis Friendship Centre is open as a warming centre for homeless people and needs the following: - flats of water - food, especially proteins - ready-to-eat food is especially welcome, from cooked dishes to Costco chickens or bagged salads.

Let’s get the facts straight on why encampments are multiplying and what it will take to address the homelessness crisis. #housing #skpoli #saskatchewan

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved. We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

Today and everyday, trans rights are human rights. This #TDoR, it's never been more important to loudly express solidarity with communities under attack. And as fascism rises, we must not give them one inch. Trans rights are not up for debate.

The most spoken second languages in Saskatoon! Most smaller cities still have some interesting differentiation here.

There’s a volunteer organization in YXE that distributes masks to people who can’t afford them - I was able to pass on some that I couldn’t use because of fit, and they will find someone who can benefit at no cost.
