WELCOME TO BLACK HISTORY MONTH

This is my son on opening day of the Hawaii State Legislature. He is wearing a few of the leis he was given, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to see his face. Going door to door to visit various legislators, there was an array of Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, Chinese and other ethnic foods to eat.

So I am now trying to find out more about Deepseek.

Wreath with lots of ti leaf and native plants.

My next wreath. Managed to find a little a’ali’i.

Ohelo berry jam. Getting ready for Christmas. Ohelo berries are a native berry in Hawaii that are related to blueberries, cranberries and huckleberries. They typically grow at 3,500 to 8,000 feet above sea level. In order to have jam or pies, you need to gather them in the wild.

A few years ago, I started passing on “stuff” to my kids while I can explain their history. This a bowl my dad carved back in the 1940’s. Gave it to my son, Chris, to grace his office at the state capitol. A reminder of his deep roots in Hawaii and its culture.

Had to laugh when I saw this one.

Small acrylic on wood. One of my early attempts to paint extinct Hawaiian birds. O’o.

This the wild native Hawaiian raspberry, akala. Larger than a quarter and on the tart side. It makes a beautiful pink dye and tasty jam.

It’s wreath making season. Happy Holidays.

My dad carved this back in the 1940’s. Passed it on to watch over my son’s legislative office.

For the first time since I learned about Matt Gaetz, I am thankful for something he did. Now that he has withdrawn his name from nomination as Attorney General, who’s next?

I realized that after I died, my kids were unlikely to hang my diplomas and other certificates on the wall. Decided to take up painting as a way of leaving something of me behind for my children and grandchildren. This was my first painting. Acrylic on canvas based on a photo.

A couple of years ago, my granddaughter asked for a rainbow polar bear birthday cake. My son made this for her.

Reviewing various banned book lists to re-read.
