Libraries are so important for ALL children to have access to. Yet Lambeth council are about to cut £1M from the budgets of the libraries in their borough. We need your help to STOP this. I wrote an open letter to the council to try and get them to see the error of their decision. Please repost.

This year's UN #IWD theme, #ForAllWomenAndGirls, marks 30 years since the Beijing Declaration [ www.un-documents.net/beijingd.htm ] (a quick read at 38 paragraphs) and the associated Platform for Action [ www.un-documents.net/beijingp.htm ]. www.un.org/en/observanc... #IWD2025 #IWD

I’ve just been telling people in the office about Rube Waddell . If you’ve not read it before, I recommend his Wikipedia page en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Wa... . I’m not sure which fact about him is my favourite?!

That chart is so scary…and to think it passes unnoticed by the most politically powerful...

Every Sunday, a couple of friends & I swap album recommendations. During the week we'll listen & give our opinions. It's been great fun the past couple of years (other than an 'Ambient April' one of them (on Bluesky but I'll keep anonymous) did that was AWFUL!)

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus pawb.

They know me too well. I'm 'toilet drowned.' Search for yourself on clearsky.app and then check the labels tab on the right hand side of the screen.

This is one of those scandals every person relying on the system knows but those in power never mention: the DWP stops PIP and Carer’s Allowance when a disabled person is in hospital for 28 days. When at their sickest, make them worry they can’t pay their bills. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

I get so much joy from librarians being unable to unsubscribe from mailing lists. And the anger of other librarians about this.

Fellow #librarians with UX experience in the UK, there's a job going at the University of Suffolk looking for someone to be a librarian with an added UX bonus careers.uos.ac.uk/job/670862

Seconded, please sign this. Streatham is filled with people working and reading the papers. Brixton homes teens, kids and people who need somewhere calm and safe to hang out. And that’s before you even get to the books! Libraries are KEY. Multifunctional health havens - we must say no to cuts.

In the latest Guardian Blind Date: The thunderbolt! Fireworks! Negronis! And it's really quite beautiful. My review:

Are you disabled and live in York or Cardiff? Do you have issues with access control barriers on traffic-free routes when walking, wheeling, or cycling? We are recruiting disabled participants for in person interviews to discuss their experiences. DM, comment, email if interested. 1/

Iowa's House File 274, which would criminalize librarians, passes out of the House Education Committee. It can now be heard on the floor. What this bill is, what it would mean for library and school workers, and why it was rushed through. bookriot.com/iowa-rushes-...

CILIP is concerned that the removal, hiding, and modification of data, research and other information resources by authorities in the USA is already starting to impede the vital work of UK information professionals. Read more👇 www.cilip.org.uk/news/693964/...

Turns out I'm not very good at this so here is some useful info: 💻It's an online event 📅 Over two half days on the 27/28th March 💰 Entirely free As well as some fantastic presentations, we have lightning talks on Health Information Week collabs, working with international partners & more #uhmlg25

Just had a 1:1 with a researcher in the US where, for the first time, I had to say ‘ since you’re investigating differences in ethnicity, please let me know if the information you’re looking for has gone missing and I’ll link you to some of the data rescue projects who will hopefully still have it.’

Yesterday, I was one of many celebrating the life of Rab MacWilliam. He was someone I had a lot of time for (even when he was grumpy!) If you have any interest in the history of London, I recommend his book about Stoke Newington.

Our group has been hard at work to release a new tool: The Data Rescue Tracker. The tool aims to provide a consolidated overview of who is downloading which dataset from which government websites. Please share! www.datarescueproject.org/data-rescue-...

Mostly for my non library friends. One of the most used healthcare databases is run by the National Library of Medicine in the US. What information it indexes and how, effects the information clinicians in the NHS access. Very worrying that it is vulnerable to this kind of thing

Booksellers, writers, publishers, teachers, anyone in the world of books and education... please sign this open letter about what Israeli soldiers did at the Educational Bookshop in Jerusalem docs.google.com/document/d/1...

While more tech companies race to the bottom to kiss Trump's ass, they manage to finally show the public what us internet scholars have been shouting for years - that technology is never neutral or objective and is motivated by political and mainly capitalistic motives.

Remember this #HeartUnions week UVW have called for a boycott of the major London museums where guards are on strike.

There are lots of bad things going on around the world now. But it is lovely and restorative to spend a Sunday afternoon cooking with bbc 6music on in the background.

Also clearly nonsense given the number of men Trump has appointed with a history of sexual abuse or violence against women

We are in a war on knowledge, a war on facts, and a war on truth. The atrocious sacking of the 11th Archivist of the United States, Colleen Shogan (which she announced on her LinkedIn account last night) heralds a new era of burning of the books. www.linkedin.com/posts/activi...

Worried about losing access to US federal data that may go off-line, or already is? You’re not alone—but duplication isn’t the answer. Many ongoing efforts have already archived key datasets and many more are ongoing. Check out these existing resources and, if you can, support their work. 🧵

My university library is assembling a list of resources for disappeared US government #data. Check it out: subjectguides.library.american.edu/data_rescue
