Before the spelling reform of 1945, West Frisian spelling still showed the 'h' in HWAT (what) just as it does in English though the position has changed. Today, it follows the phonological spelling of WAT. I think about that a lot. Hwat was it all for?

Great news! This year, Fryslân is getting bilingual Frisian-Dutch road signs. The first time Frisian will be acknowledged on official signs outside of settlement names (which is down to each individual community to decide whether they want them in just Dutch, both or shock horror, only in Frisian.

From 7-12 July the 4th Old Frisian Summerschool will take place in Groningen (coop of @universityofoxford.bsky.social & @unigroningen.bsky.social).
