Powerful conversation with @pbsnewsclassroom.bsky.social tonight! Here is my presentation on how I teach with the March Trilogy comics - docs.google.com/presentation...

Love my nerdy classroom.

Loving my students’ work. We did a deep dive on Frankenstein and the Industrial Revolution. We had some powerful discussions as we connected literature to history and today.

Join us tonight- I’ll be sharing my experience teaching with the powerful March Trilogy and more!

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Excited to be a part of a national contest encouraging students to participate in the humanities - especially history.

@jerrycraft.bsky.social ‘s books need to be celebrated and read by us all. What are people afraid of?????

This should be the response to Ukraine…

The fight to prove comics = literacy can be exhausting sometimes. There are days when all I’ve got left in my mental arsenal is the same as Phoebe 😂. (We LOVE this entire series BTW)

See you on Thursday! I have met so many wonderful educators in these discussions.

I love to write educator guides for powerful stories of all kinds - anything to help get more students reading. I have many ideas and lessons in my own book, but publishers have also put some online for free. You can find them in my website here - www.historycomics.net/free-lesson-....

Walked in to see this on my desk w/request to edit. I was out Friday due to stress. This job is a crazy roller coaster. So thankful for the reminder of why I do what I do. Relationships matter - even in study hall.I am so proud of her & know that she will have a powerful impact on future students.

Looking forward to presenting at @MidStatesCSS (Middle States Council for the Social Studies) this Friday! I’ll be bringing lots of books to give away… and a hands on activity understanding the role of comics as artifacts…. Be ready to nerd out!

Currently making my Teaching with Comics PowerPoint as I am presenting at the Middle States Council for the Social Studies next weekend. What would you want me to include?

The power of books. Bastion is all of us. If you like the movie, read the book. This would make a perfect read aloud for the classroom. #booksky

Just finished. My daughter cried through it. We are all victims of the larger racist system. It’s why books are so important. Jared can change, so can we all - but we need books like these to open minds to the truth.

I live near Philly and will be at the ALA Conference. If you can use me on a panel, let me know!

Beginning to prep for a lesson on propaganda….

I always share this video from George Takei when discussing in class, about his experiences in the camps - youtu.be/LeBKBFAPwNc . You can also watch the interview the co-authors and I shared on the creation of this powerful memoir here youtu.be/QtF5t2E8UH4

Just bought my first button maker for my next teaching with comics event. Love it! Can’t wait to see kids’ faces light up when they can create their own buttons!!!

Such a great week to celebrate comics as literature.

Oh wow! Just wow.

A powerful free online comics resource to help students understand how our government is supposed to work - www.cartoonstudies.org/css-studio/c...

If I taught marine biology… I’d take out the words and have the students come up with the name for the Doc Ock sub… LOL!

Comics/visual literacy helps students to truly see what is happening in prose, political cartoons, etc. and to slow down and really go in depth. So very proud of my students - often showing me new ways to view resources as well.

When teaching about propaganda…

We love these books! #booksky
