I think, "I didn't vote for that," is what gets me. Because even in the throes of pain they are not being honest with themselves. What they mean is, "I did not intend this to happen." It's also what they mean when they vote in a politician who persecutes minorities and they say, "I am not a bigot."

When I was in middle school, I asked my gym coach if black skinny jeans were fine to wear for gym. He said yes, so I wore them. That SAME coach then sent me to detention for wearing the clothes he told me were fine to wear, and then denied that he ever said it was ok. I don't think he liked me.
