‘Staging post’ 2013, oil on linen, 35x45cm From my Trees, Roads and Walls series (obviously) www.hollybrodie.com/trees-roads-...

A pocket-sized painting as my March Studio Special www.hollybrodie.com/shop/studio-... ‘Kingdom’, £150

Shoreditch yesterday

We should have a Royal State Visit for Zelenskyy instead, on a grander scale than anything the Queen put on from Trump last time round.

🇺🇦

Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.

A truly astounding exchange. The Zelensky/Trump meeting descends into an out and out slanging match. Perhaps the most remarkable thing we’ve ever seen recorded in the Oval Office.

It’s around the corner… A verge-of-spring painting from 2014 ‘Accidental tree’ Oil on linen, 45x35cm Unsurprisingly from my Trees, Roads and Walls series www.hollybrodie.com/trees-roads-...

'St Mary's Churchyard, Islington' (2010) by Melissa Scott-Miller scottmillerart.com

Re the latest mad video from Trump, here's the point of it, from Mein Kampf:

We are all Emmanuel Macron

‘Suburban side road’ 2012, oil on linen, 25x25cm Been gazing over the cluttered suburban horizon trying to identify bright spots in the sky. I saw Jupiter, Mars and Venus. Not sure what celestial body I painted here. (The bright green thing’s a parakeet.)

‘The recluse’ 2012, oil on linen, 35x45cm From my Urban Fables series www.hollybrodie.com/urban-fables

Must stop scrolling and write my February newsletter. Sometimes I just don’t have anything interesting to say 😳 After that build-up, I’m sure you’re all anticipation, so sign up on my website www.hollybrodie.com Or help me - what would you like to know about? New work, old work, painting techniques?

'A London Square in Winter' (1941) by Douglas Percy Bliss (Private collection)

Good morning! No theme this week, so I'll be showcasing the work of four artists. ------ 'A Lambeth Alley' (1920s) by Douglas Percy Bliss (Private collection)

Snow Hill with Ravens by Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) Oil on Canvas (Germanisches Nationalmuseum)

‘And we rebuild our cities’ 2021, thread on linen, 15x23cm 🪡 The title comes from ‘Paysage Moralisé’ by WH Auden I’ve always done these thread works, alongside painting. There’s a bit more about them on my website www.hollybrodie.com/thread

‘I’d be happy up there’ (2006) A painting from around the time I found that old frame. I thought of it while waiting at a bus stop on Park Lane. I used to spend a lot of time at bus stops on Park Lane.

If the frame fits…

‘Taking cover’ (2010) One of my most time-consuming ever, the painting hangs on my studio wall at the moment. I referred to it when painting ‘All the luck in the world’ recently. I don’t do as many people and animals these days (there’s a fox in the bin), but rain and bricks are still my bag.

‘Disputed territory’ In part a response to the election of President Trump the first time round, this also relates to the broader theme of conflict over claims to space - between groups of people and between humanity and other species Feb Studio Special, £550 www.hollybrodie.com/shop/p/studi...

'February Sunshine in Colebrook Row, Islington with Young Mother and Baby' by Melissa Scott-Miller scottmillerart.com

'A wider moat' (2016) Started before the EU Referendum. I pledged to complete it in line with the result. And here we stand on a shrinking island 5 years on, but you know - sovereignty #Brexit

‘…And we rebuild our cities, not dream of islands.’ WH Auden, ‘Paysage Moralisé’ I’ve borrowed from Auden a few times - titles and concepts This is ‘Island’ From my Trees, Roads and Walls series hollybrodie.com/trees-roads-an… Available to buy hollybrodie.com/shop/p/island

Thanks so much to @paintingsoflondon.bsky.social for featuring a few of my works today. This is a detail from one of them, ‘Champagne and chips’ (2009) These were painted in the days when I was really getting to know London. I had a part-time office job which came with some nice night-out perks!
