We need to fix our trading relationship with Europe to grow our economy and protect Britain from Trump’s trade war. It's time to turbocharge our economy by forming a Customs Union with the EU, tearing down the trade barriers and red tape holding us back.

If this government was really serious about growth, it would start negotiating a new UK-EU trade deal with a bespoke customs union at its heart. This is the single biggest lever ministers could pull to turbocharge our economy. The refusal of the Chancellor to even consider is worrying.

I think the challenge the UK has with its relationship with Europe is its innate feeling of superiority to any other nation, as a result of its empire mindset. It fails to spot the benefits of being collaborative and working as a collective so has been exploited by people with their own agenda.
