THIS THIS THIS

Wise man…

A new bat coronavirus that has the capacity to spread to humans, similar to the one that caused the COVID-19 pandemic, has been discovered by a Chinese researcher. Good thing we are completely prepared this time. www.newsweek.com/new-coronavi...

Statement from the Musk-appointed head of SSA celebrating the deletion of research grants studying the financial security of the older adults and the disabled. Just one way that the richest man in the world is dictating societal priorities. www.ssa.gov/news/press/r...

(📢) MAJOR BREAKING NEWS: The Daily Beast publishes a sourced allegation that Trump has been a Russian spy since 1987 and then—possibly under some form of threat—deletes it. But in an act of unusual heroism, it left it up long enough for Wayback Machine to capture it text. Here it is (please share):

I was set to launch my book at the Carter Library next month. This week, we were told all events now need approval from the National Archives. The next day, my event was forced to relocate. A book about the working homeless. A book about civil rights. Apparently these topics are now off limits.

Shameful

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

BREAKING: MASSIVE Ukraine rally in Washington, D.C. right now. Americans care even if Trump doesn’t.

Secretary Turner wants to cancel HUD programs that serve seniors and people with disabilities. Harming seniors and vulnerable Americans does not make our government more efficient. Senator Warren, Senator Smith, and I are holding this Administration accountable.

Following the victorious Brexiteers by choking out the only parts of the country that work

they are telling us they are intentionally burning the economy to the ground, never seen anything like it

So glad I took the time to read this piece by @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social: "The people wreaking all this destruction are betting on us being self-interested, not idealistic, fearful not rebellious, and I hope we'll prove it was a bad bet." www.meditationsinanemergency.com/this-is-real...

Regardless of how much coverage it gets, Trump aiming to install a military command that places loyalty to him above loyalty to the constitution needs to be a much bigger story.

Not surprised that it's community colleges that are fighting back. Community colleges serve the greatest number of people facing systemic barriers. A large percentage of community college students are the first in their family to attend college.

You are right. But it's 2025. Talking about it as if it will happen is how politics works. It also forces right wing media to talk about it and if there is enough Dem proposed legislation, Trump and Elon have to respond to the Dems rather than vice versa

Exactly

Of course. But being the party standing up for those fired will mean a lot to those fired and their families. It will also show the country that they are trying to bring order to chaos. And if they can get any Republican support at all, that's huge leverage for March 14

“We should be able to come together as American citizens and say, no kings, no tyrants, not now, not ever.” Thanks again for an inspiring chat, @chriswarcraft.bsky.social

Remembering tonight these very racist rants from the campaign trail that nobody seemed to take seriously at the time. Welp.

Focus on the positive: this has overall been a very bad week for Trump! * he is falling in the polls - both his favorability and his policies * he lost his first Supreme Court case on firing an watchdog, setting the way for others fired to fight back 1/

Judge Susan Crawford in Wisconsin needs to run a huge ad campaign about Elon Musk trying to buy this judicial election against MAGA McGee. Elon's unfavorables are very high right now, and people are getting tired of billionaires buying elections.

So let's get this straight: The U.S. and Elon are now extorting Ukraine and threatening to turn off their Starlink Internet access unless they give their critical rare earth minerals to the United States? Staggering levels of corruption.

Fantastic article on data privacy in government

“MAGA stands for resegregation and racism”

An inspiring article on courageous community college leaders who are *publicly* organizing and standing up against DEI attacks.. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

Every DEI firing is outrageous

Pay attention to this. Replacing JAGs with loyalists enables whatever orders Trump and Hegseth issue to be interpreted as lawful.

Trump benefits from the bully pulpit of the presidency, a legislative branch that has contracted out all of its autonomy, and Elon’s unlimited funding—but if he loses popular support, none of those things will matter. And we’re already seeing the tide turn. McCormick’s district (below) is R+22.

Why I'm glad Judge Dale Ho appointed an amicus curiae in the Eric Adams case today: www.muellershewrote.com/p/judge-dale...

The Supreme Court, in its first ruling on President Trump’s use of executive power during his second term, decided that he cannot, for now, dismiss the government lawyer leading the watchdog agency responsible for protecting whistle-blowers.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

This is how it’s done.

I like sharing local coverage like this because it's puts to rest the bs re: no protests: steveahlquist.substack.com/p/providence...

Wow. What a reply!

And the coup consolidates.

Want to tell the public what US government workers actually do, vs. the propaganda spewed by DOGE? This incredible website, "We the Builders," is asking for first-person testimonials from government workers about their actual jobs, and how they make the government work. www.wethebuilders.org

Always stand up to a bully

AOC: And he is running around because he thinks he got a bank account with a lot of zeros in it that it makes him some kind of super citizen. I don't think so.

I’m starting to think he’s got no second act. He’s like a bad one-hit wonder band from the 80s.

I want some of the laid off workers to run for office in 2026 and win.

Donald Trump’s firing of military leaders — four-star General Brown and four-star Admiral Franchetti — along with top legal officers is a betrayal of legions of first rate service members who dedicate their lives to our nation’s defense. This is a growing national security risk.

Breaking News: President Trump fired the country’s senior military officer, a role that traditionally stays in place as administrations change.

Per @phildstewart.bsky.social: “U.S. negotiators pressing Kyiv for access to Ukraine's critical minerals have raised the possibility of cutting the country's access to Elon Musk's vital Starlink satellite internet system, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.”

Rep. Jason Crow: “The purge of senior officers at DOD is deeply troubling, but purging JAG officers worries me the most. “JAG officers interpret law for our commanders. They help determine what's lawful and constitutional. “Replacing these military lawyers with Trump loyalists is so dangerous.”
