PhD students in social sciences studying "metascience" and AI: This looks like an *AMAZING* opportunity. Fully funded research postdoc that can be housed at whatever university you can find an appropriate mentor. sloan.org/programs/dig...

do you study how technology can reshape the #news and information ecosystem? attending #CHI2025? submit to our workshop! we're welcoming a range of themes: #misinformation and trust on social platforms, access to civic information, #AI in newsrooms, citizen journalism, and so on! find more below!

I'm hiring a lab manager to start this summer/fall, to work on transformative experience, identity change, and empathy in the digital age. Details here: www.crockettlab.org/research-spe... Please share!

🚨ATTN: Are you submitting an LLM-powered contribution to CHI?🚨 Consider these questions from our review of LLM-related papers before you submit camera-ready! πŸ‘‡ (New paper!)

This topic seems to be evergreen "more important than ever". The deadline for this summer program at @cornelltech.bsky.social is Jan 21!

Travel is fun but can also be exhausting and chaotic. I've started bringing the following to improve my life: 1) Trtl neck pillow: trtltravel.com/products/trt... absolute non-negotiable for me to sleep on trains, planes, and buses!!

I'll be giving a short talk on "Evaluating Generative AI Systems is a Social Science Measurement Challenge" (arxiv.org/abs/2411.10939) at 230pm today at the @msftresearch.bsky.social booth! #NeurIPS2024

Entered Overleaf today- "Writefull" is directly integrated and can edit and even write my draft with AI. Presented as something to opt out of, ethical, transparent engagement with these tools is increasingly difficult, especially as venue/institutional norms on disclosure change by the day.

πŸ“£ πŸ“£ Interested in an internship on human-centred AI, human agency, AI evaluation & the impacts of AI systems? Our team/FATE MLT (Su Lin Blodgett, @qveraliao.bsky.social & I) is looking for a few summer interns πŸŽ‰ Apply by Jan 10 for full consideration: jobs.careers.microsoft.com/global/en/jo...

I'm told that my Chair and Dean are especially interested in hiring in the intersection of AI+policy in addition to the standard list of priority areas. Reach out to me directly if that describes you and you are applying.

FATE is a wonderful place to learn and do research! Apply!

Excited to contribute to this workshop tomorrow-- LLMs are swiftly transforming social research methods.

Big week for research on LLMs in the social sciences. Two pieces of note: LLMs power qualitative interviews (www.insidehighered.com/news/tech-in...) and only 19% of participants say they'd prefer a human to an LLM interviewer. Quant and qual perspectives should both grapple with these findings.

First post! πŸ¦‹ I'm at SJDM in NYC (@sjdm-tweets.bsky.social) for the first time this weekend. I'll contribute a talk tomorrow at the "How to use LLMs in JDM research" workshop on using LLMs in open-ended text analysis. Give me a shout if you're here!
