An anti-DEI proposal from the NCPPR received less than 1 percent of votes. Deere shareholders: DEI is in. Bigots are out

#HillfortsWednesday The Iron Age hillfort of Maiden Castle (Cheshire version), Bickerton Hill near Chester, last weekend. Radiocarbon dating indicates that the earth & timber ramparts, easily visible under the bracken & bilberry bushes, were built around 600 BC www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?...

In 1968, 13-year-old Mary Beth Tinker was suspended from school for wearing a black armband to protest the Vietnam War. We took her case all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of Mary Beth and students’ right to free speech 56 years ago today.

One of the stunning - and really unusual - bosses on the rib-vaulted ceiling of the west porch of Peterborough Cathedral…it represents the holy family, with God depicted as the sun 😊 Wider view in comment below…

In Antioch-on-the-Orontes tumultuous years between the earthquake of 526 CE and the sack of the city in 540 CE, mosaicists continued to make art & patrons commissioned it. Art is an essential, timeless method of survival, whether it’s writing postcards, painting, laying tesserae, or just knitting.

🧪⚒️ Just posted Ruth Siddall @pavementgeology.bsky.social on #urbangeology. You can see so much geology on display in the building stone of almost any city, and often more clearly and certainly more conveniently than going to the field. She guides us through her favorite London urban geology walk.

It seems to have been a month for #medieval history. I found Dan Jones’ book on Henry V fascinating. Many historians have judged & will come to judge Henry. What was particularly different about Dan Jones’ approach was that over half the book was devoted to his “apprenticeship”. #Medievalsky
