Wine as climate proxy!🌡️🍇🧪 Our new paleoclimate study explores how volcanic-forced cooling affected wine production in the Moselle Valley (1444–1786). Major volcanic eruptions led to significant drops in wine production, as cooler climates hindered grape growth. 🌍🍷doi://10.5194/cp-21-327-2025

Never forget, the electric car is here to save the car industry, not cities or the planet.

“Finland’s success isn’t a matter of luck or the outcome of quick fixes. It’s the result of a sustained, well-resourced national strategy, driven by a ‘Housing First’ approach, providing people experiencing homelessness with immediate permanent housing.” oecdecoscope.blog/2021/12/13/f...

Hi! Aerosols cause the halo of scattered light around the Sun and the Moon. This halo interferes with #earthshine studies where we try to neasure Earth’s #albedo - for use in improving climate models :) Aerosols are important in many ways! 🧪

Ooooh, I may have gotten the horse2zebra GAN to work! #machinelearning except for the zebra part, um …

🌍 Planetary Albedo’s Role in Warming Earth's 2023 temperature rose ~1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. A @science.org study traced this to a record-low planetary albedo (less sunlight reflected due to fewer clouds) intensifying warming. 🔗 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... #SciComm #ClimateCrisis 🧪

Yes! Way to go! We need more like this! Kom så Danmark! 🇩🇰

Yesterday I presented results of the experiment with #ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen while he was #ISS Commander. The #Earthshine experiment unifies space and ground observations of the Moon, and determines the degree of data improvement possible for #albedo measurements from space.

It is past time that all PhD students were treated as employees, not students. Yes it's expensive, and it will probably mean fewer studentships, but it's not right to deny people employment rights like sick pay, parental leave and pension contributions at the very beginning of their careers

Hi! I am trying to do ‘Blind deconvolution’ of #lunar images that contain ‘ghost images’ of the Moon due to reflections in #optics. Looking around I do not see libraries or packaged for #R or #python. There is Lucy-Richardson, but in a setting where the psf is known. Any comments or ideas?

I will believe it when I see it. But it is *desperately* needed...

This is VERY telling.

Nice session to consider with a great team of conveners 😀

Curious how the latest AI weather models compare? Keeping WeatherBench2 up to date has been a bit trickier than we thought, but @raspstephan.bsky.social has put together a spreadsheet with quick estimates: docs.google.com/spreadsheets... Here's my version of the main plot.

Sea level will drop dramatically at the head of the Gulf of Bothnia due to persistent and strong northeasterly winds. The forecast for Kemi shows -141 cm, which would set a new all-time record low if confirmed.
