I’ve been using some ray tracing software at work to automate the modelling of a microwave transmission system. Some of the images it produces are spectacular, like some abstract work of art.

Ever since I had a hernia repair operation 6 weeks ago, I’ve been farting almost uncontrollably. Really big, smelly farts. I’ve been mostly at home resting in this time, luckily. I hope it dies down soon or I may never be able to go to a public place again. Certainly not the office.

Structure #1 in my 30 Brutalist structures in 2025: Tŷ Pont Haearn in Cardiff, Wales. Built in 2005 so a bit late to strictly be part of the Brutalist architectural movement. However, it uses many construction methods commonly used in the architectural style. Now a student accommodation building.

My New Year’s resolution is to visit 30 brutalist structures. Any care to recommend any I should stick on my list. I don’t know where I’m visiting this year (if anywhere) so probably most of them will be in the UK or maybe Europe.

In my final year of my PhD, I found a todo list from a day in my first few months. The thing I had planned for between 10am and 11am ended up taking me 3 whole months. I have a new paper in Dialogues on Climate Change exploring climate outcomes under current policies. I find that we are likely headed toward 2.7C by 2100 (with uncertainties from 1.9C to 3.7C), and that high end emissions scenarios have become much less likely. journals.sagepub.com...

It’s really not surprising that people are switching to AI chatbots from traditional websites and social media. The latter has taken a real nosedive in quality over the past few years. News sites in particular are full of clickbait rubbish and misinformation.
