Every accusation a confession

More people need to watch this excellent primer on the rampant unlawful and unconstitutional actions of the executive branch with respect to spending and federal appropriations

As the world goes to hell, Trump is living his best life. My latest @postopinions.bsky.social column, on how Trump and his family are pocketing hundreds of millions of dollars while he talks about rationing dolls and pencils. Gift link. wapo.st/3ZcXpaj

New from me: Everything feels overwhelming. But here is a tangible thing you can do: write a comment to oppose Trump's plan to convert 50,000 career civil servants into political appointees. Deadline is May 23. Please share! donmoynihan.substack.com/p/here-is-a-...

This is a must-listen. I was aware of most of these—though the $500,000 private club was new to me—but hearing them all laid out one after the other in simple terms was mind blowing. Just unbelievable grift and corruption

Wyden: "We have the CBO, which is really the gold standard of objectivity, saying that 100% of the cost savings in the Republican proposal come from terminating coverage, cutting benefits like home care, or reducing payments to providers. I don't think that's a prescription for much good in America"

Something I hope everyone covers this tomorrow notes is that...the President has no authority whatsoever to make trade deals without congress. None. Not even the pretext of one.

Cutting off public investment (that doesn’t displace private investment) through catastrophic budget cuts + cutting off private investment through chaotic and faulty trade policy = a bad, bad, BAD recipe for the US economy. It’s as if they’re trying to destroy America.

It will get lost in the torrent, but hard to overstate how scandalous this is. The national security advisor was communicating via a jerry-rigged version of an encrypted app that *functionally removed the encryption*, meaning an Israeli company could read all his texts. Throw in the towel, folks.

It begins and ends with this. Ends.

WELKER: Your secretary of state says everyone who's here, citizens and non-citizens, deserve due process. Do you agree? TRUMP: I don't know. I'm not a lawyer. I don't know. WELKER: Don't you need to uphold the Constitution? TRUMP: I don't know

That's Newsmax, not fluoride

I said it once, and I'll say it again: "There are some elected officials who have taken heroic steps to approve housing and the zoning to enable it ... But if it takes heroes to get housing built, we will never build enough housing." A better process can give us better results.

This is an essential piece of the stop-loss/rebuilding strategy for America: a comprehensive approach to protecting privacy. (I bet this one would poll in the 90s) www.nytimes.com/2025/04/30/o...

The NYT has been doing phenomenal reporting on the blatant corruption of the Trump memecoin/crypto policy. Genuinely the most flagrant, bald-faced thing I’ve ever seen short of a politician getting sacks of cash.

Amidst the mumbo jumbo, Kennedy is clear that Republicans are doubling down on the Trump policy of jacking up inflation

This hits the nail squarely on the head. There is truth. Never let go of it.

For those who have followed federalism in the courts over the years, it's worth remembering how Chief Justice Roberts parsed the issue of the federal government's ability to coerce the states when the issue was the ACA's expansion of Medicare coverage. constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay...

Malice and incompetence

Everyone who has sworn an oath to the Constitution of the US - and everyone who pledges allegiance to our republic - has sworn an oath to never allow a tyranny like this to occur. That oath must be honored.

Never thought I’d be on the barricades with David Brooks, but here we are

It would be cruel and hurt us all to cut rental assistance when there’s a well documented undersupply of housing (and falling housing starts). People will become homeless and fall into poverty. Owners will go under. Consumer spending will drop. Sadism is not a housing policy.

This man, who has endured more than anyone should, understands. Please listen to him.

America: where having an autism awareness tattoo means you're an MS-13 gang member, but having a swastika tattoo just means you're a German history buff

Who would put their life on the line to cooperate with a country that can’t keep its most critical promises? Clearly the goal of those behind this cowardly, treacherous reversal is to undermine American strength and influence throughout the world. We are better than this.

Exclusive: Ed Martin, now the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, did not disclose his RT and Sputnik appearances from 2016 to 2024 to the Senate. The State Department has said the networks act like arms of Russian intelligence.

BREAKING NEWS

There will be a series of Constitutional amendments we need to contemplate that effectively re-add, with emphasis and tamper-proof clarity, language that already exists in the Constitution. Call them the highlighter pen amendments.

With low birth rates in basically all highly developed countries, (a) finite but robust immigration from less developed countries with higher birth rates plus (b) economic development in less developed countries is actually probably the best formula imaginable to improve human well-being globally.
