What’s the word for an album that’s both extremely and obviously derivative of some other recent notable albums, but also really good?

I watched Do The Right Thing at a young, impressionable age. I had a minister who’d marched in the 60s gift me The Measure of A Man and tell me it was ok if I didn’t believe in god so long as I did the right thing.
