DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas? LUTNICK: Generally 10% DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8% LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

In a healthy information environment, this would be front-page news.

Sunset on Friday 18th December 1908. I have cleaned-up this astounding autochrome photograph of twilight 117 years ago, taken in colour by Julien Gérardin. It is an original colour plate, not colourised.

This isn’t about ensuring history is “based on facts.” It’s about making sure history aligns with this administration’s narrative. The Trump administration has ordered every national park to post signs encouraging visitors to report anything

My take on the consequences of the media's "original sin." member.democracydocket.com/the-medias-o...

At 9:00 AM this morning the entire Pentagon got an email inviting them to a “Christian prayer and worship service” from the Office of the Secretary of Defense. A Cabinet member directly violating the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

A fifth of adults (20.6%) report that they have thought of taking their own life at some point in their lives. You are not alone 💛 Ask for help if you’re feeling this way - a shared burden is a lighter one 💛 #DaddyBlackbird #SuicideAwareness #ReachOut #Community #Hope 💛

Odd that those criticizing @gtconway.bsky.social for endorsing Diane Seltzer because he isn't a member of the DC Bar, ignore the fact that I have as well and I am a member. Vote Diane Seltzer for DC Bar president.

Could you imagine the response if a democratic president said they didn’t know if they had to uphold the Constitution? How fast would the articles of impeachment be drawn ? 20 minutes at the most

It’s actually insane that there’s an argument happening here over whether the plane grift is “corruption” What are we even doing?

So let me get this straight, we finally get an American pope, and some of the America first crowd is mad because he cares about the poor and immigrants. Am i missing something here?

Let's get #WokePope trending. It will infuriate all the right people.

Chicago is on to something.

My big takeaway from tonight’s DC Bar president candidates Q&A is that Pam Bondi’s brother is exactly who you think he is, and it’s very important that DC lawyers cast our votes for @whatajlp.bsky.social by the 6/4 deadline. Search your email for “Vote Today in the D.C. Bar Election” and do it now.

Even *if* you accept Stephen Miller’s (textually, historically, and morally indefensible) claim that undocumented immigrants are not entitled to due process, you’d *still* need due process to ensure that the individuals at issue are, in fact, undocumented. His argument fails even on its own terms.

Louder for the voters in the back!

For every $1 the government spends on family planning, it saves $7 This is #fiscallyStupid

Hijacking the mail service is a tactic that has been historically used by authoritarian regimes as a tool for surveillance, propaganda, and control. Here’s how it relates to authoritarianism: 1. (1/7)

The time has come for the judiciary to scrap the presumption of regularity. It is yet another outdated norm that we can no longer afford. Those fighting to preserve democracy already face a daunting task without judges reflexively giving Trump the benefit of the doubt.

The Gallatin River is crying, ‘Mayday, mayday, mayday!’ dailymontanan.com/2025/05/02/t...

“Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls.” 😏

The mom of a USPS worker asked me to make a version of this as a yard sign. We must FIGHT to stop the dismantling of the postal service. Protect our postal workers! Proceeds go to the American Postal Workers Union! Get yours: www.etsy.com/listing/1891366163/us-mail-not-for-sale-yard-sign-24x18

"Some see".... Are the others blind?

A hallmark of fascism is to attack the judiciary.

The Justice Department quietly invoked the Alien Enemies Act last month, granting Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents the power to conduct warrantless searches of people’s homes based solely on suspicion that they are “alien enemies.”

NEW: Read the resignation letter of three federal prosecutors who'd worked on the Eric Adams case: "Now, the Department has decided that obedience supersedes all else, requiring us to abdicate our legal and ethical obligations in favor of directions from Washington." static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

The convicted felon who has benefitted from due process his whole life wants to remove due process for everyone else.

They had lawyers, trials, most were given pretrial release, allowed to testify in their own defense, got discovery, could call witnesses, could cross-examine witnesses, could present mitigation at sentencing, and had a right to appeal.

Kilmar Abrego Gaecia went from “administrative error” to “illegal alien engaged in human trafficking for MS-13” in just a few probing questions. You’re next.

Before weighing in on whether you think that it should be OK to deport American citizens to El Salvador prisons, I want you to consider that we're even discussing it.

Maybe it's nothing, but I'd love to understand why @nbcnews.com lost the subheadline here? 🧐 #autism #autistic #science

Have any “rule of law” Republicans disavowed Trump for refusing to comply with the Supreme Court or nah?

Courage is contagious. #Harvard Have the day you deserve.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

I would not have predicted that large universities would show more courage than either Big Law or corporate media. Good for them.
