Hero. “In a ruling in February, the consumer court proved highly sympathetic to Abhishek MR’s case and ordered for the cinema to grant him 50,000 INR (£450) for wasting his time and 5,000 INR (£45) for mental agony, as well as cover his legal expenses”. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Genuine question for @irishtimes.com. Are there any other proposals for ethnic cleansing, contemporary or historical, that you would see fit to describe as "audacious" or "breathtaking"? www.irishtimes.com/world/us/202...

@andreacleary.bsky.social just found these in my camera phone photos. Dunno why they are there but thought you might be interested.

Newsletter: The DeepSeek situation is a moment that should fill Silicon Valley with shame, a monument to the lack of vision and herd mentality of the American tech industry. OpenAI and Anthropic have no moat, no business, no innovation, and I believe no future. www.wheresyoured.at/deep-impact/

Just back from The Brutalist. I was well set up to like this because I liked Corbet’s previous ones, because of the ecstatic reviews, because there’s a Scott Walker connection, because it’s about (among many things) the European modernist avant-grade but … that aside … this is one astounding film.

I submit for your consideration the notion that this is the most unfairly neglected, forgotten and underrated Irish band of them all.

I’m drunk after a great party with lots of my best friends and listening to Silver Jews … best band.

I love owning records I bought 40 years ago that still sound great.

I mean it's not even that clear that Hitler was doing Nazi salutes. Maybe he was just trying to swat things. I've been to Germany in summertime and there can be a lot of wasps.

"Usher reports that the idea of the spring-powered crossbow can be traced back to ancient Greece and that Philo suggested the use of bronze springs for powering them as far back as the second century B.C. (Usher 1988)". Proud that Dublin's favourite son is getting a deserved shout-out in my thesis.

Just back from A Complete Unknown which is an enjoyable, but nonetheless pretty pedestrian, version of Dylan’s story. It’s no I’m Not There. Music sounds great though.
