I love Baltimore

Creative force Rita Collins left Baltimore after graduating high school. Now, after exploring the world and launching a mobile book van in Montana, she’s spreading her love of reading in the city she left behind.

The Washington Post and LA Times editorial pages have gone full MAGA, MSNBC has purged all of its anti-Trump anchors, and Twitter is owned by a literal Nazi. Here's why liberal media bias is still a problem.

The DC press turns every story into a win or loss for the president. That's particularly nuts on a night like tonight when the House just voted to take food from millions of kids.

"After about 15 minutes in the kitchen, agents led the cooks outside the restaurant and into a car ... some of whom had families and young kids, before inspecting their documents. None of the restaurant’s staff have heard from the three employees since."

Himes: "It just looks like an episode of The Sopranos. 'Give us your minerals or we're not gonna help you fight a bloody butcher.' I mean, is this really we want the greatest country in history to be known for -- some mafia thing? ... this president is standing with the bad guy"

Visited the Baltimore Museum of Art briefly yesterday with the Charm City Camera Group. Our assignment for this photo walk was to take images in black & white. #photography

And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

This land was made for you and me

After recent cold snap, good day to run some errands by bike, which never fails to lead an appreciation of colorful quirky Baltimore. It’s also a sign that spring is coming when folks here are leaning out their rowhouse apartment windows to chat up people on the sidewalk :)

yeah!!! It finally came out! An article about the traveling bookstore in Baltimore Magazine (March2025 issue). Grab a copy if you can. Or just be excited with me to get the bookstore story out into the Maryland area. Thanks to the folks that made this article happen. @baltimoremagazine.com

A profile of Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the Navy's top officer, who spent roughly half of her 40-year career at sea, commanding a destroyer, two carrier strike groups and the U.S. Sixth Fleet, & whom current Defense Secretary and former Fox & Friends co-host Pete Hegseth fired tonight.

So an open threat against a sovereign state. Where are all my “state’s rights” people?

The group, including mayors from Boston, San Francisco, Baltimore, St. Louis and Cleveland, says Trump's NIH cuts would "undermine scientific progress in American cities."

One of the things I like most about my job is that I can learn about issues that I had no idea even existed. Medical debt liens on someone's home??? It's crazy to me that we've been allowing this. And now we can stop it -- contact your Maryland legislators! econaction.org/debt-reform/...

Prime example of the cruelty being the point.

I lost my job at the National Science Foundation yesterday, along with 167 of my colleagues, including some dear friends. This was the best job I've ever had, and I thought it would be my last. The PI community has been sympathetic and supportive, without exception. I will miss working for you.

I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important: Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

Many good things happening in Baltimore, including big 41% drop in homicides. Talked with a variety of civic leaders about the city's future for our Feb. cover story—most sounding "cautiously optimistic." (Of course that was before Trump/Musk threw the very stability of the country into question.)
