@mrjamesob.bsky.social Motley Crue, AC/DC, GnR, ELVIS, Bruce Sprinsteen, Eminem, Stones....The list just goes and goes. It's incredible how casually male artists could write about sexualising a young girl. There may occasionally be mitigating context or nuance to the writing, but...."there it is".

@mrjamesob.bsky.social There is a creator on Insta who has made it a thing to respond to lyrics of pop music. It's.....eye opening....and he has not shortage of material to make content from. It can be funny to watch, but sometimes really quite disturbing.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social "All Men Are Rapists" is similar to ACAB. It's not strictly something that is true for each individual officer, but the potential danger that you can't predict is the point. It's not always helpful, but yeh, that's the point.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Often the best listener on talk radio

So yeh, Carl Sagan is a legend

This is phenomenal

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Good moment to recommend 'The Salt Path'. The exercise of empathy the story forces makes it a necessary watch/read.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social See! Ye of little faith. Only took a few years and a genocide to find a benefit.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social hitting on the complexity around the conversation around religious dress.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social They absolutely knew what was going to happen, and it was always the point, of course. They are making sure nobody can say "We didn't know." Also possible they are absolutely humiliating everyone complicit.

Thank you @mrjamesob.bsky.social for talking about it.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social I think everyone already thinks it looks awful being late. An error is fixed soon.....A misguided political ploy is reversed later. Quite the shame. Although, as @tomswarbrick.bsky.social points out, the turn itself might be the error. Complex.

Absolute shame on @lbc.co.uk for its news coverage of the yacht being intercepted by Israel. The minimisation in the language is absolutely disgusting.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social This is Alex Garland's 'Civil War' becoming a documentary.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social It's unfairness. We play by the rules, but there are people not doing so and getting away with it. Maybe it's.....powerlessness? We don't like feeling powerless when there are rules not being exercised to make it right. But we'd get caught and have the book thrown at us?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social He's tapping into frustration of being taken advantage of when others get away with it. It's unfairness. Like when you see terrible, dangerous driving going unnoticed.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Possibly "Broken Clock" syndrome. Saying that, there may also be an effort at image-rehabilitation? As to the barber shops comment, I assume this is touching on the concern about cash-only fronts for dubious practices; it's a good way of engaging people with that worry.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social referring to "greasing Boris Johnson's passage" is very unsettling. Please don't do that.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Asking if attention spans being shredded is a bad thing. If we're being very serious, a look around the country right now possibly suggests an inability to process info (which is definitely linked) is definitely bad. I don't think that's as tenuous a link as it seems?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Shortening attention applies in various forms of art. It has been talked about a lot by older musicians and film makers who have been recognising for some time a lessening ability to stay with an idea without distraction.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social On this point, a great find this morning is of actor Michael Rapaport talking about Joe Rogan's guests who aren't in any way an expert on something very important, but are allowed "their views". It's an echo of what you often mention about "balance".

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Animals >> humans. For many, it's actually that straightforward. I get that this is hard for some people who adore children to get their heads around, but it's true.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social I guarantee nobody understands this question about it being about the screws, not the wall. It's physics, no?

Even as @mrjamesob.bsky.social raises this issue about pedophiles, I want to point out that there is good evidence suggest that many of them welcome it. I've recommended before, but a good reference here is 'The Woodsman' for better understanding the condition.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Having a fair, sensible conversation with a perfectly decent-sounding bloke, wonderfully highlighting that you can be absolutely screwed up by not being able to differentiate between what IS, and what personal experience or how you feel about a thing has lead you believe

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Would you see your favourite band on your own, or with fellow fans?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social To quote David Lynch, "If you're playing the movie on a telephone, you will never in a trillion years experience the film" If he was alive, he would apply this to this question as well.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Cinema rules. Cinema is still relevant. See 'Sinners'. It is more cinematic than 'Warfare', which is very good, of course.

@shelaghfogarty.bsky.social show this afternoon - Bad, condescending arguments again. TERFing off the scale. Incredible.
