A very fun show, and that sixth finger idea is genius.

30 minutes on hold for the UK tax office is no way to start the day.

10 years ago I interviewed Bruce Schneier after he published "Data and Goliath" warning about the dangers of privacy online. A decade later and the forecast is looking stormy. 'In 50 years, I think we'll view these business practices like we view sweatshops today'

On @bart.gov reading about it running out of money. If nothing is done service could become hourly, stations closed, and the service shuts down at 9pm or completely. The end result would be fewer users, more cars on the road, and an even worse money crunch. www.bart.gov/about/financ...

@theregister.com readers are the best :)

Morning frost in the Bay, a rarity. Do love the feeling when it crackles under the feet - reminds me of home.

It's official - for Google at least. It's now the Gulf of America. Please tell me this is for US users only.

Well, it looks like my cunning plan of shopping after the Superbowl started hasn't paid off - the place is rammed.

I'm finally getting used to taking a Waymo of an evening and on a Saturday night in San Francisco the computer is one of the sanest drivers out there. We were trying for the Knightrider soundtrack but the car wasn't having it, so "Baby don't hurt me," seemed appropriate.

Legendary British tech hack Martin Banks was laid to rest this week. One of the loveliest people I've ever known. We competed for stories but shared information when in a common cause. After over 40 years covering the industry he knew his onions, and wrote beautifully. Miss him a lot.

It's Superbowl weekend again, which always make me think of Giles in Buffy: “I just think it’s rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby.”

To quote The Tall Guy "I hate needles, the thought of someone sticking something into me drives me wild!" But it's worth it. There's a blood shortage at the moment and it only takes 30 minutes. Plus they have cookies!

I'm so ahead of the game on this. Every house needs a gubbins drawer.

Albany Hill in the morning sun is lovely. Both burger places, not so much.

This is ridiculous. How are you supposed to do a scientific study into comparative reactions of drug trials without mentioning the word Female?

He's not alone.

"They also covered the People of Color in Cryptologic History honorees—like Wash Wong and Ralph Adams." This is insanity. Also, imagine what 40% of the NSA's workforce is thinking about after seeing this.

Another Kettle is live, and the topic was easy to decide this week.

OK, it's an advert, and I can't imagine why YouTube brought it up, but as I'm having Marmite and toast for breakfast...

Once again, the Archive is busy. More power to their elbow.

And grey is the colour...
