Who's doing chicken taco friday for dinner?

I'm noticing lots of young composers hung up on making "beats" and never trying to learn how to craft a melody. I'm judging hundreds of scores for the IGMC and grading countless university assignments that are overrun with bland, forgettable beginnings of something that could be cool but never is. πŸ˜‘

I just gained a boatload of new followers between yesterday and today. So ... hi! πŸ‘‹ Introduce yourself!

I've hit peak tech-dork. I'm spending the morning alternating between judging the IGMC game music contest and vibe coding a cool new app for composers & music theory nerds.

If this is real, what are the implications for sample developers and musicians/performers. As a composer I've learned to love editing CC for hours on end, but the idea of NOT doing that anymore sounds great too. kagura-music.jp/melisma-top

Spending the morning & afternoon judging entries for the Indie Game Music Contest (indiegamemusiccontest.com). Did any of my followers submit for this? So far I'm quite impressed!

Hey Bluesky.... it's been a while. Anything good happening around here?

The Petrushka chord mystery is solved. It wasn't groundbreaking harmony, Stravinsky was just seeing double! #musictheory

Peculiar how people revere composers like Steve Reich for his inventive rhythms and irregular phrasing, but can't recognize or disregard a similar level of genius in Kendrick Lamar.

When I prototype games or interactive multimedia, I usually start by using sfxr.me. Super quick for proof of concept sound fx!

I produced and did scoring and sound design for an educational game/ motion simulator ride for NOAA called Wild Earth: Deep Ocean. It was in aquariums and zoos around the world. Such amazing people there and a rewarding game project I'll never forget. www.axios.com/2025/02/05/d...

Who has cool FMOD projects I can show my video game audio class this morning? I'm tired of showing my own stuff as examples.

@macroplica.bsky.social Hi Mark! Great to see you on here!

Students presented their Atari music projects. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« Today we install FMOD and start creating some fun adaptive audio. Who's working on something awesome in FMOD I can show in class today?

Wow! When was the last time the mempool was empty?!

I was getting all upset about politics, until I remembered how effing sick Manu Katche's drumming is on Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live!

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! πŸˆπŸ¦…

I touched a nerve about my girl scout cookie post. Lots of DMs... I guess I need to remember I don't even like fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies or warm molton lava cake. I'm more of a cold pizza guy.

My theory is no one actually likes girl scout cookies but they're all afraid to say it. I'm not crazy, right? They're not good cookies.

Can. Not. Wait. I LOVED his score for There Will Be Blood.

Curious if any of my followers are making any games on the ethereum blockchain?

I love when former college students contact me years after graduation seeking professional advice related to jobs they landed in the music / film / game industry. Makes it all worth it!

Super pumped for this semester of Video Game Audio. next class I'm teaching the students how to compose music on the Atari 2600. we'll start with emulators, but time-permitting we'll use hardware with custom cartidges. composing for Atari = harrowing experience πŸ₯΄

Spring semester starts tomorrow! What kind of cool things would YOU want to do if you were in my Film Scoring, Video Game Audio, or Audio for Video courses?

Well hi Bluesky-ers. I've been pretty quiet around here as I wrap up some big scoring projects. What are my composer friends working on this week?
