Big picture: day by day, it’s clearer that the Trump presidency is determined to cling ever closer to Russian propaganda and strategic positions. Day by day, the question as to how European leaders intend to respond, if indeed they do so, becomes ever more pressing and acute.

Have written about JD Vance’s Munich speech. In what may prove to be the biggest week for European security since 1991, it’s time Europe listened to what Trump and his Vice President are telling us. open.substack.com/pub/goodalla...

I thought it was worth explaining why this claim by @rcolvile.bsky.social is *not* based on "OBR statistics" and indeed directly contradicts them, as well as all other published data on migrant wages. archive.ph/az8g6

DeepSeek's R1 AI is the biggest news story of the year. It delivers leading edge performance at 1/50th of the cost of other firms. That's why AI tech stocks collapsed. But its model - and unique techniques - are open source, meaning others can build on them. So the AI race will now accelerate.

This is important & necessary. I’d add only that a) It’s clear many of the political & media figures deliberately ignoring these facts are playing with the sort of fire we saw on our streets this summer & b) Laura Kuenssberg’s failure to point this out to Farage was an appalling dereliction of duty.

Some people in recent days have alleged a ‘cover-up’ over the grooming & rape of hundreds of young girls in predominantly northern UK towns, leading to calls for a ‘national’ public inquiry into child sexual exploitation FWIW here’s a non-exhaustive list of inquiries into #CSE in last 12 yrs…

How to stop Musk. A playbook

In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions www.gov.uk/government/p...

I’m afraid I simply don’t have the time to work out who is who on here and decide which of you I should follow. It seems like the place is absolutely teeming with good eggs. If you want me to follow back, just ask. Can’t really say fairer than that. 🙂

Was always inevitable Labour would need to move on youth mobility, and that would probably be part of an overall package. There's nothing else that's new in this long report, for ambition to remove SPS barriers doesn't make that happen...

Farage walks out of Sky interview because, apparently, having 1m TikTok followers means not having to answer as party leader, about your MP's failure to disclose being jailed for violent assault. But we should definitely trust Nige's vetting going forward. Unless he gets 2m TikTok followers. ~AA

Asked by Sky News whether his fellow Reform MP previously being jailed for repeatedly kicking his girlfriend, and then subsequently lying to voters about it, should be grounds for his expulsion from the party, Nigel Farage replies that "I've got a million followers on TikTok" and storms off

Here's what's happening ... 1. For the last decade, Putin and the far right have been using racism to divide societies across the West. 2. They claim they're only against "illegal" immigration, but they're not. They're against ALL immigration. 3. Racists in the West are being used as useful idiots.

1. The implicit deal behind Starmerism was this: you might not like what he stands for (or fails to stand for), but at least he knows how to win elections. If you want the Tories out, he’s your only hope. But now? It’s as if he’s going out of his way to lose in 2029. 🧵

The American Prospect: "Tariffs in the Trump era will take on a premodern character—where proximity to the king will determine one's economic fate." So... exactly what America fought a revolution to avoid.

18 months ago, the warnings were clear as daylight. Today, the hammer fell. www.bbc.com/news/busines...

NEW: The great Trump-Musk crackdown is coming. And it will hit hard & fast. Journalists will be first. But everyone else is next. I urge you to read my 20 lessons in How to Survive the Broligarchy, inspired by & featuring the great @timothysnyder.bsky.social 1/ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"The spectre of Brexit is simply becoming too big to ignore. An unprecedented statement from the Bank of England this week finally broke the Brexit omerta when Governor Andrew Bailey directly blamed slow growth on the UK’s decision to leave the EU." 🇬🇧🇪🇺 www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/kei...
