The transcript of the interview between Stanton/Sherman and Savannah's Black leaders is one of my favorite sources to teach Reconstruction with. It was a treat to find the spot where it happened.

🗃️ Nice to see the nine books published so far in the Glucksman Irish Diaspora series, which I edit for @nyupress.bsky.social, on display #aha25 in NYC. Two more books coming in 2025, including "Rituals of Migration" with @irpinaingiro.bsky.social @iehs.bsky.social ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ nyupress.org/search-resul...

Stop by the Fordham UP booth at #AHA25 to find Embracing Emancipation among other great titles. If (like me) you can't make it, FUP is offering 25% off their virtual book exhibit: www.fordhampress.com/aha-2025/

10 years in, I remain beyond grateful for my 4-4 tenured gig. But the issues of access and networking are real. Received yesterday another list of journals we're losing access to; professional society dues come out of pocket; and conference travel funds will cover about a tank of gas and a meal.

Mainly for my own ease, I've put together an Irish Diaspora Histories starter pack (I shall be putting them all into a list for when I want an extra dose of Irish diaspora-ness) - there are some Irish migration historians in there too! Let me know if you want me to add you in! go.bsky.app/MvvgFFF

The piece cites an interesting study by economists of the impact of Chinese exclusion on the US economy. Short answer: "Very few people benefited from the Chinese Exclusion Act." www.npr.org/sections/pla...

Today's lesson with my American history survey students on how to connect the past with the present featured this article by Eric Foner on the uniquely American history of mass deportations: www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Embracing Emancipation: A Transatlantic History of Irish Americans, Slavery, and the American Union, 1840-1865 (Fordham University Press, 2024). Currently researching New England cotton gin makers' role in the expansion of cotton cultivation and forced labor in the U.S. & India.

Here's an Immigration Historians starter pack. It is incomplete since I don't know everyone who has migrated here, but let me know and I'll add your name. go.bsky.app/L3YMsk7

Excited to see my forthcoming book Embracing Emancipation: A Transatlantic History of Irish Americans, Slavery, and the American Union, 1840-1865 in Fordham University Press's Spring 2024 catalog. Sharing snippets from it here in the months ahead--thanks in advance for sharing with others here.

Welcoming @iandelahanty.bsky.social, historian of 19th-century immigration, slavery, and antislavery. Work of interest to @hidehirota.bsky.social @unlawfulentries.bsky.social @schoeppner.bsky.social @iehs.bsky.social
