I just watched Mulholland Drive for the first time since I saw it in a theater and now I’m in a really good mood. Am I okay? youtu.be/7KgH9n1c4mM

I’m going to again post my stance on Trump and fascism from my campaign site. A lot of local Dems seemed spooked by this kind of talk, told me to “fight the far right as a private citizen and don’t attract attention to us.” But how much better would Dems be polling if they were talking this way?

Last night we watched Slash/Back. It was fun, just narsty enough, had uncomfortable reminders of junior high, and had some of the best use of mobile phones I’ve seen in a movie. youtu.be/R18NMg2AAoU

Oh no, my Lighthouse-themed beard oil is almost gone.

Tonight we watched 10 Things I Hate About You. It was my first time seeing it. It was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised. It is definitely a movie released in 1999. youtu.be/Ax8qnxP2TWY

Popular or not Dems cannot bend on the need for trans people to be treated with basic humanity and respect. If we give up that because the right made trans people unpopular, we give up everything. They’ll dice us group by group like a salami. We die on this hill or we die alone in a ditch

this is exactly it. i wrote something similar not long ago

I just drove by 15 to 20 stuffed animals strewn along the side of the interstate.

Filing away this thread for future use.

In case it helps someone: The phrase “We don’t do / say that here” is immensely useful in managing people who feel emboldened to try to push boundaries and test behaviour norms in your spaces. It’s a bland statement of fact, doesn’t contain an accusation, and can be used by anyone including peers.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

Almost 20 years ago, a doctor on TV was asked, "Isn't 12 a little early for a kid to be deciding to transition?" And her response was, "It's old enough for them to decide that it's not worth living anymore if they can't." That was the only argument I ever needed to hear about gender affirming care.

(cw suicide) i probably think about this image set more than anything else i saw on tumblr a decade ago. That's Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy btw.

I have a newsletter now, and a new email went out today! It's about the book I'm currently working on. Check it out! And if you dig it, feel free to subscribe. 🥰 buttondown.com/sarahbecan/a...

*raises hand Because we've let the press consolidate in the hands of right wing billionaires with a vested interest in the hollowing out of informed consensus and real journalism, replaced by shallow ad-based controversy infotainment designed largely to disorient, distract, and coddle power?

A good thread. It dovetails with other advice I’ve seen about standing up to bad behavior online and in public: it’s not necessarily about winning over the source of the bad behavior, it’s more often about showing solidarity with the target and being a positive influence on bystanders observing.

Something I was very proud of: I kneecapped (or so I thought) Graham Hancock by going on his Wikipedia page one day and noting that he was pushing pseudoscience. Someone reverted that, and this led to a minor edit war which ended w him and some fellow loonies tagged pretty irrevocably as charlatans-

Songs about the Sandman ranked by how menacing they make the Sandman sound: 1. Roy Orbison - In Dreams 2. Metallica - Enter Sandman 3. The Chordettes - Mr. Sandman

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance. Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

it’s becoming increasingly clear the goal of the far right is to defund and buy up every source of reliable information until there is no more objective reality to counter them

Weird that we have to say this, but the government doesn’t get to decide what gender a person is.

Eight years ago I was in the Florida Keys and photographing chickens and lizards I saw while out and about.

i am not dopamine scrolling. i am not doom scrolling. i am simply continuing my search for the single sentence that will explain everything. its out there. lets find it

RIP David Lynch. It’s hard to pick, but I think my favorite film of his is The Straight Story. Although I might be biased due to living in a small town in Iowa as a kid. youtu.be/BauhJIjn9Uk

Dungeons & Drag Queens just started season 2 on @dimension20.bsky.social and @dropouttv.bsky.social. First episode was great. I really enjoyed the first season. youtu.be/tbZILayxJ2I

Katamari Damacy! The main theme or intro. Such a delightful pairing of music and gameplay. youtu.be/M7EXlS9-XpU?...

Willie Nelson singing Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. "An impromptu rendition of the Nirvana classic captured in Australia 2001" according to the blog I downloaded the audio from in 2012-ish. Photo is Willie Nelson from high school obtained from Wikipedia. youtube.com/shorts/FWWbj...

I really enjoy Prelude’s version of the Neil Young song After The Gold Rush. I’m not a big follower of either artist, but I stumbled across it a couple decades ago on Brain In A Box (a Rhino box set with a sci-fi theme), and it’s stuck with me since. youtu.be/OIUdWQDngdc
