Dear BBC - is it the improved air quality? Comfort? Or that they lower bills & carbon emissions that make heat pumps 'controversial'? These are facts, not political statements. Banning a presenter from talking about this technology is dangerous & embarrassing. www.theguardian.com/media/2025/a...

Introducing Sunshine Place - a little village with Good Energy. ☀️🏡 We have given a model village a green glow up to show that small scale has a big impact. More info: www.goodenergy.co.uk/sunshine-pla... youtu.be/_CFhAIkUzyM?...

Gas boilers are now the biggest source of NOx air pollution in central London But city-wide, cars are still the biggest source. Story: www.thetimes.com/uk/environme...

May we all aspire to be more like Emily Marchant. Legendary behaviour. www.bbc.com/news/article...

This from @ben-cooke.bsky.social is one of the best write ups of what a low carbon future energy system will look like for customers I've read in a national newspaper. www.thetimes.com/life-style/p...

A strong argument against 'fabric first', which I think it's fair to say is especially prevalent in the UK. Though 'electrify before you insulate' is going to be a tough sell while we have some of the highest energy prices and worst home energy efficiency in Europe. cleantechnica.com/2025/03/27/t...

Had the treat of being able to join a live recording of my favourite news podcast @tortoisemedia.bsky.social's The News Meeting in my nearest city of Bath yesterday evening.

For some reason a bunch of media this week have decided to quote one of our particularly mundane support articles explaining how smart meters interact with clock changes. Of all the interesting and important stories we pitch, this is what they're writing about.

Today the government has announced Great British Energy will invest £200m into solar for schools and hospitals: lnkd.in/eacrhUGu As an installer for schools including E-ACT's academies, highlighted in the announcement, we know firsthand the positive impact it can have on these organisations. ☀️💪

The Conservative Party is so far beyond worth taking seriously at this point. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is the biggest thing we're getting wrong with the EV transition. I fully believe that just as 90% of people who think they need a petrol or hybrid car would be better off with electric, 90% of people choosing an SUV would be better off with something smaller. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Being a Very Silly Person, I had to make a @goodenergyuk.bsky.social TikTok on what the Tea Time Alarm means for grid management and flexibility.

Yes this problem hasn’t gone away and it isn’t a little old Good Energy whinge about our competitors not being as green as us. +£1bn or more annually is spent on REGOs with no evidence that cash is stimulating growth in renewables. It’s also increasing customer bills needlessly! Fix the loophole.

Cool bit of PR from Vattenfall. Would be cooler if they made snowboards. www.independent.co.uk/climate-chan...

EV PEOPLE: Please, I beg of you, stop using the acronym 'ICE' in any circumstances other than for completely necessary shorthand within industry. The average person has no idea what it means. If you're looking for a replacement term, dinofuel motors or smelly gas wagons are both good options.

This really sucks. @makemymoneymatter.bsky.social's message is so important and they've produced some of the best campaign content around the climate crisis in recent years.

Happy weekend to everyone except the owner of the Land Rover with the license place ‘LE55 TAX’ who I was stuck behind earlier.

It’s so funny that the FT app is like ‘oh yeah we’ve got silly little stories like Snap and Insta too 💅’

Ofgem have really backed themselves into a stupid corner here. Consumers, and apparently consumer groups, think removing standing charges means just that. Not moving the costs, which is the only practical application. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Heat pump sales went down in Europe in 2024 (13 countries). The UK is one of 3 exceptions, but we had Europe's lowest uptake per capita in previous years! There have been more sales overall of air-to-air heat pumps than other types (but not in the UK). www.theguardian.com/environment/...

It is abundantly clear that Musk is not only affirmatively *not* the genius his own mythology once portrayed him as, he is (as a resigning Twitter engineer once satisfyingly said to his face) in "only really like the tenth percentile of the adult population" for gullibility.

Good blog from Andrew and Andy. The Good Energy Heat Pump tariff was designed using data from heat pump customers to ensure they'd save money even without changing behaviour.

Hey you know what would bring everyone's bills down rapidly? Moving policy costs into general taxation. www.theguardian.com/money/2025/f...

I plead that any journalist who's frustrated with companies not putting press office phone numbers on their website have a word with their ad sales colleagues who are cold call spamming the companies who do.

Just watched #TheSubstance. I was not prepared.

Dropped my car off for a repair this morning and have been given a petrol courtesy car. It feels like stepping back in time. Just rubbish. I honestly don't know how anyone willingly drives these things.

Yes! Take policy costs off electricity, put them in general taxation. Not only would it make running a heat pump more affordable it would lower bills for everyone, including those who can't afford a heat pump today. Plus it would be a far fairer way to pay for crucial green infrastructure.

Cairngorms National Park Authority wants to know what to do when 30-50 feral hogs are released into its yard. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

So, some eagles won the superb owl competition? Seems poorly judged.

Having spent a not insignificant amount of time trying to explain to Mail journalists that they are cherry picking figures to come to the wrong conclusions about the pace of EV charger roll out, this feels vindicating. www.dailymail.co.uk/money/electr...

I can tell Bluesky is really taking off because throughout this week I've been going back and forth with a guy who's done 'literally THOUSANDS of hours of genuine research' to come to the conclusion that EVs are only being powered with gas and coal.
