⚠️Recordatorio: mientras que la pensión media real en estas dos últimas décadas ha aumentado un 35 por ciento, el salario medio real es similar al del año 2007. www.funcas.es/wp-content/u...

Fair comment, apart from the first thing. And the second thing. And the third thing. And the quoted comment. And everything else. So apart from 100% of the claims made being fact-free assumptions, great article.

In honour of Francis, here is Tom Lehrer's classic, Vatican Rag. Includes 3 finest couplets in song: "Do whatever steps you want if/you have cleared them with the pontiff" "The guy who's got religion'll/tell you if your sins original" "2 4 6 8/Time to transubstantiate" t.co/ltBeZMbzdF

The crisis for UK steel is exposing another – perhaps even bigger – crisis for the UK Our news media seems incapable of even the most basic factchecking YES energy for UK steelmakers is costly NO it's not due to net-zero YES it is due to GAS Here's what UK media isn't telling you🧵

@phillipspobrien.bsky.social There were plenty of copies of The Strategists in Daunts, Marylebone High Street, London. There was one fewer by the time I left. I look forward to reading it.

I don’t know why I looked up the iconic cover of the game Mastermind, but it has quite a comical backstory. I just assumed it was the creator and his wife (far left pic, the others are later variants – of which there were many), but it was actually a hairdresser and a HK computer science student!

*Loving* the irony of Global Radio - home of Heart, Capital, Classic FM and Smooth - taking legal action over being forced to listen to the same few songs over and over again … 🤣📻🤣 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Has the pandemic killed the Friday after work drink? We use credit and debit card data to find out...

We’re hearing lots about how cars are our biggest export to the US, and it’s true that they and pharma are our two biggest goods exports. But they are dwarfed by our financial services exports (£29bn to end Q2 2024 vs cars £7.5bn). Insurance £11.5bn, telecoms and IT £8.8bn.

This is an amazing attitude when your business relies on selling things. Has the vibe of Pete Green feeling guilty about making money from his songwriting.

Today, if you want to change a street name, there is uproar. But it wasn't always the way... especially when homeowners wanted to forget the past. For gentrification in London is nothing new. Take Wimbledon's Camp Road, SW19. Once it was Workhouse Lane.. londonstreetguide.com/2025/02/camp...

@markdoyle.bsky.social I enjoyed Paris 1919. It provided lots of intriguing perspectives on the album, which will make me listen to it differently. While I am not sure I buy the Christmas angle, it was an amusing discussion. A great ghost of an idea.

I’ve seen the future. The world’s container ships anchored off US ports, waiting for the 12 hour windows in which Trump suspends tariffs.

3 out of 4 of the students on the top deck (Scumbag College) went to public schools. 3 out of 4 of the students on the bottom deck (Footlights College) were state school educated. A great, counterintuitive thing that is oddly satisfying.

Very interesting thread and article on why Europe's advantages over the US in making steel, vehicles and aeroplanes matters. In the last few years we've been strongly reminded we live in a highly material world where control of resources and capacity is king. This is another example.

Also worth noting that the Russian Army has taken very few actual cities, and none even close to the size or distance from their railheads of Kyiv. Kharkiv is basically on the border and they haven't come close to taking it in three years.

The current situation is a "crisis" according to The Times but 2015 was apparently just fine? www.thetimes.com/uk/society/a...

This is a great point. Say you saved 10% of your gross income. To max out your ISA personally you would need to earn £200,000. Even if you managed 20% saving that is still an income of £100,000. And note - I wrote gross not net income.
