Resonant words from the Auschwitz Memorial today: “Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. Hatred was gradually developed. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through dehumanization & violence to systematic & industrial murder. “Auschwitz took time.”

Child sex abuse gang jailed for crimes going back as far as 2012. I'm sure all the usual right wing gobshites will be furiously demanding an Inquiry and shouting about cover-ups. Any minute now... ..just you wait...

Just like much of the furore this week, here is an example of a law passed 4 years ago and the Tories did nothing with it. Within months of us being in power we delivered the scheme because we are about actual actions and real outcomes. They talked we walked. www.burytimes.co.uk/news/2484314...

"For all the easy, cheap nonsense being peddled - changes 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 made." Andrew Norfolk confirms Keir Starmer "completely changed the rules" as DPP to help prosecute grooming gangs - directly countering Musk's claim of a coverup. @maitlis.bsky.social @lewisgoodall.com

The Conservative party accuses Keir Starmer of refusing to take child abuse seriously. In other news, here's former Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson complaining about £60 million being "spaffed up the wall" investigating historic child abuse cases

I’d add only that a) It’s clear many of the political & media figures deliberately ignoring these facts are playing with the sort of fire we saw on our streets this summer & b) Laura Kuenssberg’s failure to point this out to Farage was an appalling dereliction of duty.

A cautionary tale for the rest of the world that should be studied for decades. The country that imposed economic sanctions on itself.

New Christmas lights just went up in Clacton. (Farage is still the MP who makes most money from second jobs. By a long way.)

Here’s a short story about who wins and loses from the status quo of our inheritance tax rules - and about, what you might politely call ‘sub-optimal’ journalism🧵

If you bring central London to a halt in order to campaign against catastrophic climate change then you're a "barmy" eco "fanatic" who deserves to be locked up. If you do the same to hang on to your multimillion pound inheritance tax exemption then you're a brave freedom fighter defying the odds

How privatisation works (and Thames Water is just the latest example). 1. A government takes a national asset built up with taxpayers' money and the work of public servants over many years, and hands it, for a fraction of its value, to a private company. 2. In doing so, it creates a monopoly. 🧵
