The reality is, no two people are the same. And we want everyone to be able to walk to the bus. Check out our article for the Horizon Europe project UPPER about how to incorporate walking—and physical abilities—into public transport planning: www.upperprojecteu.eu/news/giving-...

“Fear in public spaces is a subjective feeling, but usually has an objective trigger and often arises from a collective experience.” I really appreciated this article-think that Seattle transit/public space advocates should give it a read. ht @theoverheadwire.bsky.social www.nzz.ch/english/in-s...

Did you know? It can take someone 65 years old twice as long to walk to the bus as someone under 35 years old. Walking is essential to public transport, but walking times are not one-size-fits-all. Check our artcile for the EU Horizon project UPPER www.upperprojecteu.eu/news/giving-...

Javier Bardem is a great actor but most importantly he encourages walking and using public transport. We will have to consider making him an honorary member of IFP! "Mostly I walk, I like walking". Best way to move. Great interview by @wired.com #walking #pedestrians #mobilityculture

Controversial safety policy has helped drive down premiums to 18-month low, says Confused.com www.theguardian.com/money/2025/j...

Let's remove these killing machines from our streets! In a collision, a pick-up truck is almost three times more likely to kill a pedestrian or cyclist than a normal car. The high bonnets of pick-up trucks put children, women and the elderly at even greater risk. #pedestriansafety #roadsafety

I think multimodal transportation in the U.S. would be far safer & more comfortable if we had less of this dynamic: Person w/ mobility needs (who just navigated an icy sidewalk) hurries through crosswalk w/ too short cross time, while driver of huge truck waits at light on perfectly cleared street.

Should it be possible to walk to every address in the country? We think so!🏡 🚶‍♀️ Ever had to walk a dangerous route to get where you were going? Or maybe it's a daily occurrence where you live? Let us know in the comments!

In 1923 the Auto Club of Southern California persuaded the LAPD to issue a “no jaywalking” order. At its own expense, the club posted 60 signs like this one along Broadway. Walkers ignored them. So LA motordom united behind an effort to get a new law with fines, passed 100 years ago: Jan 24, 1925.

“Swapping just 5-7% of car journeys for e-biking, cycling or walking by 2030 could add 1.1m years of healthy life by 2050… What’s more, the biggest gains are seen in disadvantaged communities , helping to reduce health inequalities while cutting carbon emissions” - @profchristianbrand.bsky.social

In some areas in the UK, e-bike companies use a "free-float method" allowing riders to park anywhere - provided the bikes are not obstructing pavements. But some critics argue that users are abusing guidelines and abandoning the vehicles in precarious places. news.sky.com/story/litter...

This @neweconomics.bsky.social report examines how a car-dependent transport system places, amongst many other impacts, a heavy financial burden & insecurity on individuals (particularly those with lower incomes & those living in rural areas), contributing to insecurity and poverty.

@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social this is great for safety reasons as indicated - but it's extremely important to mention that it also changes the priority. In the raised crosswalk with daylighting the pedestrian comes first and pedestrian centric cities are better for all of us, always.

Building on your post @ianwalker.bsky.social Dodge RAMs are 3 times more likely to kill a pedestrian or a cyclist in a collision than a normal car - in the past year over 5,000 have been introduced to Europe bringing the current total number to 20.000. We are calling on the EU to stop this.
